If you could rent one lens for WDW

We are going to WDW in Feb and would like to rent a lens. I have a XTi with the kit lens and the nifty fifty. I don't see a need to rent a telephoto lens for WDW and I'm leaning toward a wide angle lens. If you could rent only one, which would it be. Which of these would be the most versatile.

10-22mm 3.5-4.5
16-35 2.8
17-55 2.8 IS

Thanks for your input.

I would go with the 10-22. The other choices you listed cover about the same range as the kit lens and although they might give better image quality they won't offer a different viewpoint.

10mm *really* has a different viewpoint! :)

I would try the 17-55 2.8 IS (matter of fact I am currently researching this lens). While I agree the 10-20mm 3.5-5.6 would be an entirely different perspective, it still is not going to help you gather any light for the indoor shows. I had a 17-55mm 3.5-5.6 lens with me on our last trip (used it most often) but still struggled indoors with it. If you plan on shooting indoors, I'd go with the wider aperature if it were me (and it is 2.8 throughout the zoom range which is a huge bonus).

if you are happy with your 50 shots, i'd go with the 10-22 as well...i think the is still is not useful for a vehicle ( i know the old isn't so unless they changed it the new isn't either) so i'm not sure you would really get that much more help from it in that case. and your low light would be ok with the 50 probably so i would like the new perspective of the 10

I rented at 10-22 for my trip and had a blast with it... You can see some of my shots here

Look at day 1 with the lights at MGM and at Day 2 with the MK photos.

ORCHJOE,

It was your shots that got me thinking of the 10-22. Thanks for your post, great pics. How was it for a walk around lens. I looked back at my last trip and found 60% of my shots were in the 18-25mm range with my kit lens. I know the 50 will be hard to use on ride vehicles due to its range. How difficult did you find it to use indoors and at show?

You can get some interesting shots indoors with the 10-22:

I was fun using the 10-22mm when I was there... I went to Disney with my kit lens 18-55, a 70-300mm and the 10-22mm and carried them around all day on my back with a lowpro AW 200. I had the 10-22 on my camera most of the time when I was walking around. I switched lenses for characters and for the close up pictures in the parades.

Here's what 10mm can do, the lens was right up against the window.

I am also researching the 10-22. I took the 24-70 2.8L with me on one of my trips and was SO sick of carring that thing around. It was a monster !

Thanks for the info. I do see some distortion of some buildings and what not, but I guess that is the look you are looking for with a 10-22. It gives some of the pictures a unique composition.
