If you could, how would YOU change the Disney Store?

I think I would simply add a lot more variety. The stores at WDW really do a great job with this--there is something for everyone, even in lots of the smaller stores at the World. I would add more frames, pictures, etc. for decorating items, more home stuff (kitchen stuff, dishes, candles, etc.), more boys stuff, and some more expensive Disneyana stuff for true collectors. Just my 2 cents. :)

You all have given very good ideas, but again how much stuff can one store and still be profitable??
Most Disney stores are very small and can not carry every thing.
I admit the plush is a little overwhelming, but it really does sell.
In order to carry such a huge variety, it just dosent seem feasiable to me

I would make it like a mini department store with specialties in:

1) Kitchenware
2) Mens, womens and childrens clothing
3) Bath department
4) Outdoor accents
5) Beachtime
6) Office/Books
7) Entertainment
8) Toys
9) Food area with a Disney indoor Bistro/cafe. I would have a small French themed Bistro Cafe that offered teas, coffees, sodas, Dole Whips and finger sandwiches. I would also offer a Disney Bakery with Mickey shortbread cookies, Disney chocolates, Disney Fudge and so forth.

Disney Thme park music would play lightly in the background.

The Bath Department would give out mini Mickey head sample soaps.

The Food area would also serve free samples.

Snowball- let me know when you finish building your store....I will be first in line on opening day!! Sounds like a great idea....***sigh*** if only it would ever happen......:D :D :D

Make it bigger!!! I'm imagining like the size of the HUGE Disney store in Downtown Disney...hehe, not really, but bigger than the current. Definatly add more collectables and home stuff...limit the kids clothing, costumes, games...They aren't the only one's who love Disney! Oh, and of course, make everything less expensive.

More adult stuff....
also stuff for older boys....my son is almost 9 and wears a 10/12....it is very hard to find t-shirts etc with Stitch(he loves Stitch) or Mickey or goofy( the "regular characters" )as he calls them...almost everything is Buzz or Stanley,,,he feels he's too old for that. we get some stuff catalog when there's a sale or in DTD when we're there.....
Bathroom stuff..

1) adult clothes in a large selection of sizes
2) items starring characters besides Pooh and Tinkerbelle
3) home stuff
4) SNOWGLOBES!!! I don't know where to buy snowglobes anymore :(

Definitely agree with a bigger selection or a selection of adult clothing. Such as; collared cotton shirts with a mickey or character insignia, collared cotton shirts with a theme (the fab five, etc.), cardigan sweaters, pullover sweaters, polo sweaters. 10 to even 5 years ago, they had some great stuff!

I also agree on adding more artwork and gallery stuff. Even Harmony and collectible dolls would be nice. Household goods is great too! Each season should have a theme!

The toys, lower quality little kiddie clothes, videos and stuffed animals is not much different than the stuff you can p/u at Wal-mart. Disney Store needs to draw you in, not lead you out.

I agree with the previous posts about disney stores. I used to love to go there...now they have nothing except princess stuff. My daughter loves Buzz, so I would like to see them be a little less gender biased. I miss the adult clothing and would like to see more movies and books. I love the idea someone had about a mini dept store.

At the Chicago Dis meet over the weekend, someone else brought up this idea and I think it'd be the most doable:

Get rid of the Disney Stores completely.

In their stead, open a World of Disney(just like the ones in the parks, or bigger with some parts of other Downtown Disney stores) in each geographical area where they had 4 or 5 Disney Stores.

I have to agree with this idea as the most doable and maintain a high profit margin.

There are currently have four Disney (fluff) Stores within 30 minutes of here. Golf Mill, Old Orchard, Nothbrook, and Woodfield. If they dumped all four and any others within range and opened one WoD they'd be much better off.

What is wrong with you people? You think disney should carry every item they make just so they can sell one or two per month
and make one or two people happy.
I agree about them carrying more adult things but then you want quality without a big price.
How many of you bought $100 sneakers, or Tommy Hilfiger or
Alfred Dunner for the ladies? Also $50 jeans and more items of the same. I see people all the time buying these big items.
Why should Disney have to sell for less when the quality is as good or better.
I have embroidered sweatshirts I bought 8 yrs ago and the colors and the fabric is still in excellant condition. Yes I paid $50
or so but the quality is there and they last.
The big mistake was going to the screenprint style of pictures
instead of the embroidered kind.
I agree Disney is hurting because of all of the kids stuff but give it a rest about the high prices from years ago.
Those of you who buy those other items I talked should not expect Disney to be giving things away just to make you happy.
The stores are only so big and cannot carry every product line that Disney makes.
Try to be more realistic and try to change things instead of constantly whining.

TDS used to be a sort of mini WOD. TDS used to carry all the items people have posted that they want to see in the stores. And if the sales had been there to support the lines they would have been profitable and would still be in the stores. But they weren't selling and they weren't profitable. It doesn't do a store any good to have collectibles and other merchandise that just collects dust. The profit margin was not there.

TDS is now trying to gear toward the lines that are selling. They had several versions of concept stores that were tested for a period of time, including home stores, and this is the model that was successful. You may not be buying as much, but there are lots of people that are buying it.

Walked right back OUT! There is NOTHING there for ME to buy! No Adult T-shirts, or Pins for that matter! BRING BACK PINS---BRING BACK ADULT CLOTHING!!
