If you could do it over

We have 230 points right now - 150 at VWL and 80 at HH. If I had to do it all over again I would buy all 230 at HH.

Can I ask Why? Is it because it is so close.? Do you not have problems with the 7 month window at the Disney resorts?

I bought at BWV last April, and would do so again. I haven't stayed at the BW yet (first trip scheduled for May), but I like the location and the low point value of the standard views. If I had to do it over again, I *might* want to wait for BCV, but I doubt it.

I'm looking forward to buying an add-on to AKV, but I doubt DH will be on board with that.

I'm the odd one out as in I wouldn't buy in the resort I own in now. I would have either bought earlier and bought into OKW or VWL when it 1st became available, or later and bought into SSR when it 1st became available.

BCV just isn't a good fit for me and mine, one of the reasons I'm hoping to sale next year and hope to turn around and buy into AKV.

DW and myself are both retired and though we (meaning mostly me) love WDW; we really love the beach alot more, specifically HHI. We prefer going in the summer and staying in a 1BR. That means we have to go with 7 month ressies if we use our VWL points to augment our HH points. Getting a 1BR at 7 months is alot more difficult than if we had all 230 points at HH. When we go to WDW, which resort we stay at and even what time of year we go isn't that important, so it would be alot easier to make 7 month ressies there than at HH.

I would still buy into OKW with maybe a small contract at BCV to guarantee us a stay there every once in a while. Love that pool and location!!!!!!

Although, I must admit, that even with not being owners at BCV, every time we have wanted to stay there, we have been able to.

I'd buy my home resort--SSR. Love it, love it, love it. My sister says she'd buy her home resort, too--BCV.
Funny how most of us really do like our chosen homes.

DVC Veterans- knowing what you know about the DVC resorts, fees, locations, sizes etc. If you were to buy into DVC now what resort would you buy into? :grouphug:

I wish I had not bought two small contracts at BCV and VWL - had I known AKV was coming I would have wited and then been perfectly happy with SSR and AKV.

Now I am *stuck* (I am sorry that makes me giggle as if owning them is bad!! :rotfl2: ) with owning at 4 resorts when I purchase another small contract at AKV.

I wish I could trade the 100 points at those two for 100 at AKV. Oh well if this is the WORST part of owning DVC I will be just fine.

The same one - OKW. We absolutely love spending time there. While we've stayed at a few of the others - BCV, BWV, SSR - (and hope to visit HH and VB one day!) - OKW remains our favorite. The laid-back atmosphere is perfect for us. The units are large enough that, even when vacationing with our extended family, we never feel crowded. All of the DVC properties are special in their own way and we've enjoyed them all for different reasons. But OKW is our true home and we adore it! :cloud9:

We own BCV and would buy there again in every circumstance. We also own at SSR and enjoy it, in fact we just stayed there over Thanksgiving. However, our heart is with VWL which is where we are staying after New Years! BCV and VWL!!!!!!

Thank you everyone. Are there any parks that you can walk to from various DVC resorts? If so, which ones?

You can walk to EPCOT and MGM from BCV/BWV.

You can walk to DTD from SSR.

I still would buy at OKW and BW, they're a good choice for us. However, I have two small add-ons of 77 pts, and I wish I hadn't bought those, because I have a tendency to forget about those, and have nearly lost those pts twice. One of my contracts is 270 pts, which should probably have been 170 and 100 pts. We have over 900 pts, and that's such a good amount, but I am giving one contract to one of our kids, and maybe to the others too, when they can afford it. I might sell a contract, and buy a Marriott, too, I haven't decided yet. I can get a Marriott week for around $5000, which means that the extra $$ could be put back into the bank.

Ok trying to figure this out... and i think another DVC newbie asked this too... I think I know why you want points at more than one resort, but why do you wish your 270 points were split into 2 smaller parcels of 170 and 100?

Kathy,
Many, many people who are going the resale route are doing so because they want to buy in at less than Disney's 150 point minimum. The smaller the contract, the easier it is to sell. Most 25-100 point contracts are snatched up immediately and tend to sell at a higher price per. point. Contracts can not be split, so a 300 point contract will always be a 300 point contract. Numerous small contracts are desireable because of the ease of unloading small portions of your total points when you need to.

Once you are in the DVC system, you can add on as little as 25 points at a time.

Here's a hypothetical situation. Let's say I own 300 points at the same resort, but those points are divided like this 1-150 point contract, 1- 100 point contract, 2- 50 point contracts.

Now, lets say my family gets older and my kids leave home. DD daughter decides she wants a fairy tale wedding. I can probably sell one of my smaller contracts as soon as I put it on the market, use the $$ for the wedding, and still have 200 points for me and DH (and those future grandchildren) to use.

If I had one 300 point contract, that sort of flexibility would not be posible.

We originally bought 175pts at BCV. We then added another 50pts at BCV. Instead of the extra 50pts, I wish that we would of added 125pts at VWL (my wife's favorite). We are now looking at adding on somewhere. Maybe 70-110pts at AKV, VWL, or even SSR. Other than that, no complaints.

We have 200 SSR points. Now, I wouldn't exactly say I regret the contract we have or where we have it, but if we had to do it all over again we'd go for at least 250pts resale at BCV or BWV instead.

Who knows...perhaps in the future we'll be able to afford an add-on.
