If you change resorts

If you start your trip at one resort then change to a different resort half way through, are you held to the same check out/ check in times - out at the first by 11 a.m. and in at the second not til 3 or 4 p.m.?

that is usually how it works. I have heard you can request an extended check out time and think they let you stay until 1pm with no charge if you ask them. When we change resorts, i usually request ahead of time an early check in and state that we are coming from another resort. They will transport all luggage for you. Last year we had no problems checking in early.......we even got our rooms at WL and BWV as early as 8 am!!, but that was in sept.

We are Disney veterans as well as DVC members. We will frequently change rooms during a trip in order to experience all the different resorts. On most trips, we have been able to request a late checkout (usually no later than 1), but very rarely have been able to check in before 3/4 depending on the resorts specified times. (There is NEVER a late checkout with a DVC resort!)

One caveat......on EVERY trip, bell services has managed to miss-place our luggage if we have had it sent over. It either never gets sent, or is "lost" upon arrival at our new check-in. It usually has taken at least an hour to clear this up. The worst was not getting our things until 11 that night! (Including the kids PJ's & toothbrushes!)

Now, if we plan on switching resorts, we drive either our own car or a rental & simply store our luggage in the trunk!

Can anyone else comment on their experiences with having Disney transport their luggage when switching resorts? We are planning on doing this for the first time in June, and the previous post has me rethinking our plan. I have dealt with lost luggage before (airline) on three occasions and want to do anything I can to avoid reliving the experience.

Any suggestions on making this process go more smoothly?

I was there in Dec / Jan and stayed at all three DVC resorts. Started at OKW, moved to WL on New Years Day and then moved to BWV about 6 days later. So, I had Disney transfer my luggage twice and never had a problem. They told me that it would be three or four o'clock before the luggage arrived at the new resort so I wasn't expecting it before that time.

I didn't extend my check out or try for early check in. Actually, I checked out pretty early, left the baggage with Disney and went to the parks. Then in the afternoon, I'd head back over to the new resort and check in. I didn't have any problems at all. I didn't have a car so needed to use the transfer service. I even had food and some perisable items. They kept the food in cold storage so I didn't have anything spoil in the transfer. For me it was very easy.

I've always tipped about $1.00 to $1.50 per bag and in this case I tip at both ends. I have bell services come to my room before I check out and get my bags and I tip them there and then tip the person that brings my bags to my new room after I check in. On this trip I had two medium bags a brief case and one plastic sack with food. I let them bring the bags into the room and put them where I asked. I tipped $5 each time.
