I'd really appreciate it.

I had a kidney stone attack last Tuesday...my first. They (I have 2 of them) have not passed on their own and I'm going in for day surgery tomorrow. I know it's a fairly routine procedure, but I'm a little nervous. The only other time I've have surgery was 10 years ago with my C-Section.

I almost didn't start this thread because I'm not always very good about responding to such requests myself, but I really believe in the power of prayer and although I don't reply to the other threads I always say a quick prayer at the person's request.

So....if you took the time to open this and have a second, would you please send some pixie dust up to Maine and keep me in your thoughts tomorrow?

Thanks DIS friends.

You bet! Good luck, and I truly understand your nervousness! Prayers and PD coming your way.

I don't know what type of surgery you are having, but if its the same thing that I had when I had my kidney stone, its not bad at all. It feels like someone is playing the drums on your stomach, but not too hard where it hurts. Plus they give you really good drugs! And the stone usually breaks up, making it easier to pass. After I had it done, I never had another kidney stone (knock on wood!)

Best of luck tomorrow!

Any procedure seems like it is not routine when you are the one experiencing it.;) Try to keep positive and let us know how everything turns out for you.

Shelley, my thoughts and prayers are with you!! Hoping your surgery goes smoothy!!

Praying everything goes well and that you will be feeling much better soon!!

Prayers sent to Maine!

I don't always respond to all prayer requests either......just don't have TIME sometimes, but if I see a request, I'm like you and I offer up a silent prayer. I think that counts. ;)

Best wishes for an easy speedy recovery. :)

Sure will, SeaShelley. My best, with a prayer, hope all goes well. Let us know.

Snoop...drums??? Neat. :)

SeaShelley,
There are several ways to retrieve a kidney stone, usually done as a day surgery procedure. As the above poster noted, lithotrypsy is the one where you lie on a table and a machine uses sonic "shock waves" to break up the stone. You get sedative drugs through your IV, so you'll barely know what's going on...just some tapping sensations and it's a little noisy.

A second method is via cystoscopy where they pass a tube to where the stone is and "grab" it with a basket device.

Both methods are very common and routine day surgery procedures. You should do fine!

Hope this helps...prayers coming your way for a nice, easy procedure tomorrow.:wizard:

I prayed for you, Shelley, and will be thinking of you tomorrow. Keep us updated.

Hi all,

Many thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts. My surgery went very smoothly and they ended up removing 3 stones...as my doc said "small, medium and large".

They did the cystoscopy procedure that Aurora described and I'm a little sore today. I'm just so thankful to have it over with!

Again, thanks for all the well wishes....I knew I could count on you all!

Shelley
