Toby Keith is well known for sticking to his guns. In fact, if I were going to criticize him (which I don't, because I love the guy), it would be that he could maybe give a little here and there. So far it has worked for him. We'll see how this new project he's doing works out (I have high hopes, but have my doubts regarding its success.)Dixie Chicks rule!!! Five Grammy's!!!! They are so much more than your average country artist which is fine with me!
Toby Keith is an opportunistc slug who'd sing anyway the wind blows if it made him money. JMO, of course.

Like what? Which songs in particular? I'm sure you are including, "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)" because everyone who slams him uses the word "jingoistic" in reference to that song...but I'm unsure about the rest of those songs. And yet he keeps writing those crappy jingoistic songs.

But it isn't about Toby vs. Natalie. That was all stupid crap, which Toby finally realized and admitted.
It is about the Dixie Chicks telling their fans to shove off.

Could you list them off? I know all of them, even the ones that weren't on albums, so just the titles would do.
OK, first - Toby hasn't said he is for or against the war. What he said was that it didn't seem to make sense to him, he can't figure out the ties to Iraq, but that he doesn't see the confidential files the President does and that he hopes the President is doing the right thing. I'm paraphrasing, but not changing the content. Everyone took this and said, "Toby is against the war!!!"I hadn't planned to say much on this thread other than to let a poster or two know I enjoyed their comment but Cool-Beans' last comment was one too many for me.
Sticking to his guns, eh? That's why suddenly he's against the war?![]()
Natalie Maines didn't apologize to him, she issued an "I'm sorry" for causing the ruckus with her comment about Bush. She's not the flip flopper here, your big brave Ah-mur-can hero, Toby, is.![]()

, It isn't about Toby Keith.
I'm guessing you don't know the meaning of the word "jingoistic." Because there isn't anything jingoistic at all in that song. The song is about a soldier, and to the best of my knowledge, he wrote it to support the military guys. You mean the songs where he makes money by 'flag waving' like crazy but not actually putting his life in any jeopardy? Ok, here's another jingoistic song sung by Toby.
Here's one:
American Soldier
I'm just trying to be a father,
Raise a daughter and a son,
Be a lover to their mother,
Everything to everyone.
Up and at 'em bright and early,
I'm all business in my suit,
Yeah, I'm dressed for success from my head down to my boots,
I don't do it for money, there's still bills that I can't pay,
I don't do it for the glory, I just do it anyway,
Providing for our future's my responsibility,
Yeah I'm real good under pressure, being all that I can be,
And I can't call in sick on Mondays when the weekends been to strong,
I just work straight through the holidays,
And sometimes all night long.
You can bet that I stand ready when the wolf growls at the door,
Hey, I'm solid, hey I'm steady, hey I'm true down to the core,
And I will always do my duty, no matter what the price,
I've counted up the cost, I know the sacrafice,
Oh, and I don't want to die for you,
But if dyin's asked of me,
I'll bear that cross with an honor,
'Cause freedom don't come free.
I'm an american soldier, an american,
Beside my brothers and my sisters I will proudly take a stand,
When liberty's in jeopardy I will always do what's right,
I'm out here on the front lines, sleep in peace tonight.
American soldier, I'm an American,
An American,
An American Soldier
eta: the errors in the lyrics (spelling, capitals) are from the website where I obtained them.

The "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" was written immediately after the attacks on America.
And I didn't say the Dixie Chicks apologized to Toby. But they did apologize for their actions overseas, then took it back. And they did apologize for insulting their fans, then took that back, too. Took both back with a vengence, too.
Although I was like, "WTH?" when the Dixie Chicks insulted Toby, and Toby went after them...back and forth for a while, until Toby just quit...I never really cared. Toby is a big boy and can take the name-calling. They were both acting like dopes, and if I hadn't been a fan of both of them, I wouldn't have cared in the slightest. As it was, I just found it mildly amusing.
But, even though he's one of my favorite subjects, It isn't about Toby Keith.
Got a bit of a crush on Ol' Toby?![]()
You do realize that he is a (gulp) Democrat?
From the CMT website:
"But as far as Willie's deal with John Kerry goes, people don't know that I'm a registered Democrat. "

Toby is very big on the military, always was. He goes overseas and plays for soldiers. And he does it for free. He pays for it. And he doesn't get PR people to talk about it. He did this before the war started, and he's still doing it. That's what he does. That's who he is.
Nothing changed when the war started. He didn't suddenly decide to support the troops for money. He'd always done it...and he loses money on the deal. Not that he can't afford to lose a little or anything. But still.
Blech. You are gonna suck all the fun out of this thread by letting that cat out of the bag.![]()
