Toby Keith is an opportunistc slug who'd sing anyway the wind blows if it made him money. JMO, of course.

Toby Keith is well known for sticking to his guns. In fact, if I were going to criticize him (which I don't, because I love the guy), it would be that he could maybe give a little here and there. So far it has worked for him. We'll see how this new project he's doing works out (I have high hopes, but have my doubts regarding its success.)

The Dixie Chicks, though, issue statements, take them back, then say, "No, wait, we were right the first time, that's what we believe now." They waivered so much that if you didn't follow the story as it happened, it is hard to know where they stood when.

But it isn't about Toby vs. Natalie. That was all stupid crap, which Toby (to his credit) finally realized and admitted.

It is about the Dixie Chicks telling their fans to shove off.

Like what? Which songs in particular? I'm sure you are including, "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)" because everyone who slams him uses the word "jingoistic" in reference to that song...but I'm unsure about the rest of those songs.

Could you list them off? I know all of them, even the ones that weren't on albums, so just the titles would do.

I hadn't planned to say much on this thread other than to let a poster or two know I enjoyed their comment but Cool-Beans' last comment was one too many for me.

OK, first - Toby hasn't said he is for or against the war. What he said was that it didn't seem to make sense to him, he can't figure out the ties to Iraq, but that he doesn't see the confidential files the President does and that he hopes the President is doing the right thing. I'm paraphrasing, but not changing the content. Everyone took this and said, "Toby is against the war!!!"

And I didn't say the Dixie Chicks apologized to Toby. But they did apologize for their actions overseas, then took it back. And they did apologize for insulting their fans, then took that back, too. Took both back with a vengence, too.

Although I was like, "WTH?" when the Dixie Chicks insulted Toby, and Toby went after them...back and forth for a while, until Toby just quit...I never really cared. Toby is a big boy and can take the name-calling. They were both acting like dopes, and if I hadn't been a fan of both of them, I wouldn't have cared in the slightest. As it was, I just found it mildly amusing.

But, even though he's one of my favorite subjects , It isn't about Toby Keith.

I'm guessing you don't know the meaning of the word "jingoistic." Because there isn't anything jingoistic at all in that song. The song is about a soldier, and to the best of my knowledge, he wrote it to support the military guys.

Toby is very big on the military, always was. He goes overseas and plays for soldiers. And he does it for free. He pays for it. And he doesn't get PR people to talk about it. He did this before the war started, and he's still doing it. That's what he does. That's who he is.

Nothing changed when the war started. He didn't suddenly decide to support the troops for money. He'd always done it...and he loses money on the deal. Not that he can't afford to lose a little or anything. But still.

LOL, no I don't have a bit of a crush on ol' Toby. I have a huge, gigantic, teenage-girl style, head over heels, deep down in the well, MAMMOTH crush on Toby.

Of course I know he's a democrat and always was! I know everything you can find out about the guy. Even in the fan club (cause you get decent seats without all the work involved with calling and such.)

But the first time I heard a song of his on the radio, I liked it. Second time, too. Loved the songs, loved the voice. I didn't like the music because he is so, well, hot. I liked the music first (and still do!) Then I saw him and that was IT!

They really ought to put a picture of him in the dictionary under "man."
