Is there a penalty for changes?

If at 11 month a member books their home resort...Then at 7 month mark decide to book another DVC resort..Is there a penalty?

What if then 4 months later, within 3 months of trip, there is availability and you decided to make another change...A penalty then?

There is a penalty within 30 days to cancel correct? Something like you must then use points before use yr expires and also you are penalized next use yr to only booking within 2 months or something like that?

That's right -- there are no penalties for changing resorts within the DVC system.

I have to give you credit jerseygal...you are asking all the right questions. It's important to get all your ducks in a row before you make this type of investment. Are you at the point yet where you need one of us to push you over the edge?

If you cancel 30 days to 1 day prior to check in, your points go into the holding account. Points in holding can only be used to book a stay 60 days or less in advance. They cannot be banked and expire at the end of your UY. If you cancel on/after your check-in day all points are forfeited.

This is so funny, I was about to ask the same exact question!! Then I saw this thread. Thanks everyone for answering!!

It's great to know that you can secure your home resort and then change 4 months later if another resort you would like is available. This is another great thing to know about DVC.

Now...will this include the ones in California and Hawaii that are currently being built? DH and I have been married close to 7 years. We talk every once in a while about going to Hawaii for our 25th (FAR FAR AWAY, I know!! ). So I was wondering if we would possibly be able to go to the DVC in Hawaii, if available. Good to know though that if we decide to purchase, we could (hopefully) book first at our home resort and possibly have a *romantic* Disney vacation for our 25th! Again, looking way ahead, we're talking 2026 people!!

No penalty in the next UY. The 60 day booking is if you end up with points in holding due to cancelling between 30 and 1 days before arrival. It applies to the UY you are in at the time.
