If you book a room only discount, can you still add the dining plan without losing the discount? How exactly to room only discounts work vs. a package discount?

The discount only applies to the room, but you can still add tickets and dining.
Whether the dining plan is worth paying for, is another issue.

If you add a dining package you have to buy at least a 1 day WDW ticket for each person in your group who wishes to use the dining plans.

We have an AAA discount for our room and we already pre-bought our park hopper tickets from "undercover tourist". Nice Savings !

WDW told me I had to buy a 1 day standard park ticket for each person in my family to get the dining plan added to our room reservation.

So - for our family it would cost for 4 adults (all over 10 years old) ->
four 1 Day MYW Base tickets and the and the cost of the dining plan, becomes a GRAND TOTAL of $2201.72
OR for 10 days it would be $220.17 per day - we can eat for less per day.

CALCUALTIONS BELOW:
Base Tickets =
1 Day MYW Base $ 90.53 x 4 people = $362.12

Dining plan = Basic Dining Plan (each day get TS, CS & snack)
•Adults: $45.99 (regular season) | $47.99 (peak season*)
we go in the summer - I assume Peak Season
4 people for 10 nights = $1839.60

Yes. A room only discount is just that, a discount off of the room portion.

Yes, I just booked yesterday with a 30% off room PIN I got in the mail.

I booked POR + DDP + 9 day tickets and saved about $680 or so. Still waiting for free dining because I think that might save me more! But the point is....I booked it all together as a package.
