I came across this site a few months ago. You enter the starting point of your trip and the destination and it plans your route and lists the hotels along the route. You can click on the name of a hotel to get more info.
It helped me on a trip to NC. It's nice to know what hotels are coming a few miles down the road when you've decided your ready to stop. I call ahead from the road to get rates just before we actually stop.

Thanks.
I also use http://www.flyingj.com to find out where the cheap gas is along the route.

And McDonald's has a map site on their web that lists all the McD's along the way.. We found that it's great to stop for a Playland stop for the kids.

Thank you very much for this very helpful information.

We are once again driving to Disney in October and this will come in very handy.

minnie mouse ~ We will be there 9/27-10/11. I'll be wearing my lime green ribbon! (my DH will think this is kooky  ).

I see you'll be using I 95. If you click on www.i95.com , it tells you where all the exits are, what's at the exits, recent gas prices, rest stops and construction! When we went down in Dec., I checked out the road work areas and it helped up plan when we would be going through them! You definitely want to avoid them during rush hour!! :bounce:

always quiet ~ thanks. I've heard the D.C. area is a mess lately...well more messy than usual!

You're welcome! :D When we went down in Dec., they were doing road work in Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, North Carolina, SC, and Florida....including on I4!!! Talk about a mess!! We left on a Friday morning (the day after a snow storm! ). There were road crews everywhere! They were building a new ramp in DC....I swear it was 10 stories off the ground!! :earseek: Believe me, you won't able to miss it!

We drove from Maine the day after the Northeast received 2' (yes! 2 feet) of snow February 18, 2003. Maine, NH and Mass did fine removing the snow, however, by the time we hit NJ (24 hours after the snowstorm), we were having differculties. My husband called a freind who then checked the www.i95.com. He was able to get us information on different ramp/road closures. We had no choice but to stay on 95, but we at least knew where the trouble spots were. We were able to check if our exit for the hotel in Fredricksburg, VA was open -- it was, however, the parking lot was not plowed.

It was all worth it when we arrived in sunny, warm FL!!

The I95 link doesn't work. It seems to be for getting business on the web. Does anyone know of a new link.

I always go to Cracker Barrels and get one of their maps. It shows were all the CB's are and a great road map too. We leave around midnight hardy any traffic in the DC area then. DH drives straight throught it takes us about 17 hours that includes stopping a few times for fuel, food and potty breaks. We're about 20 minutes north of Balto. City.

Thanks for ther tip about www.I95.com I'll be using that on our next drive down south in Oct.

We love Cracker Barrels too. On one trip my in-laws stopped at them for Brkfs, Lunch, & Dinner and at dinner my 5 yo nephew said, "We'll never get to Florida if we keep coming back to this restaurant!" (for those unfamiliar, they are all virtually identical)

My FIL always did the drive-through-night-thing. We did it w/ him once and I was "hung-over" for days bc I got NO sleep in the car. Instead we leave after work (4:30pm), drive 'til late (midnight or 1am) then get up early and are back on the road by 7-8am. Works better for us bc. we both sleep at our normal time (just a bit less) and by keeping with our normal sleep/wake rthym we feel so much better.

Thank you for the other link for I95. It's a great site. I'll be using it on our trip in November.

After having to drive from Atlanta to Port Canaveral for a cruise last November, I stumbled across this website in my planning stages: www.roadguides.com. They cover the major interstates across the country, and they give info for food and loding at each exit. Great for planning gas and junk food runs:cool:

These are great, especially the I-75 link and the one with hotels listed! We'll definitely put these to good use in September.
