If we can DREAM it, we can do it! ..... another 30 day vacation Update 02/07

That is a gorgeous room! It doesn't even look like a hotel, it looks like a well-appointed bedroom. I'm loving those french doors. I will definitely keep this hotel in mind for when I go to Key West in the future.

A turtle race! Too bad you don't have any pictures.

So...the announcer talked during dinner? Is this one of those dinner shows or does he just like to talk?

Too bad your food wasn't that hot. Still looks good though!

Yes, I know .... Hotel Hell, while IN a hotel :scared1: what were we thinking. :rotfl2:
The Southernmost is such a wonderful hotel .... it IS hard to leave. :rotfl: That's why we are already booked to go back next summer, same room and everything. :thumbsup2

Meeting Joh and her family was such a wonderful treat. They are all wonderful people. :grouphug:
It looks amazing :beach: And Karin...DISers are the best :grouphug: I feel blessed for the friends I have made here :goodvibes Yourself included

It is a beautiful hotel and a the rooms are simple stunning. Everything in it is top notch! You really need to check it out for yourself, if you have Key West on your mind. ;)

The turtle race was no big thing, Yuki. It actually went on outside while we were having our starter - hence no pictures. ;) :lmao:
Then they moved inside and the announcer was only one table over and what he did was to explain how the price "drawing" worked.
It was quite entertaining, but a bit loud from where we had been seated. :thumbsup2

Thank you, Jeanette.
It still amazes me though, that whenever you meet someone, you know from the DISboards there is an instant connection, just like you have known her/him for a long time. Having Disney "in your blood" sure is the best bonding agent there is. :thumbsup2

Day 4, August 14

A Trolley tour and a dinner at the beach - Part 1

For the first time this vacation we were able to sleep in a little. We woke up around 7am and after taking a shower enjoyed some time out on the balcony, enjoying the views.
Around 9am we walked over to the Southernmost Beach Café for breakfast. It’s adjacent to the Southernmost at the Beach Hotel and when we got to the café we waited to be seated. Turned out that we actually waited at a side entrance and a server was at hand quickly to correct our mistake and direct us towards the hostess stand.
Once they had seen us we were quickly seated at a table right at the open side of the café with a beautiful view of the beach. We were handed the menu and asked if we cared to order any drinks right away and yes, we were ready. Tom ordered

some coffee, while I stuck to tea and was happy to see that they had quite a few teas to choose from. And it didn’t take long for our breakfast to come out after we had placed our order. Tom had ordered the

Crab and Shrimp Omelette, succulent claw meat and juicy Key West pink shrimp in their fluffy three egg omelette, with hollandaise sauce, house potatoes and buttered toast. I went for something I just cannot resist when I see it on the menu,

Eggs Benedict. They offered several different varieties of Eggs Benedict and ordered the Key West Benedict, perfectly poached eggs atop English muffin and asparagus spears, topped with locally caught Key West pink shrimp and hollandaise. Both dishes came with a side of fresh fruit and were as yummy as they looked. Once we had finished our breakfast feast we walked over to the Sightseeing Tour stop across from the hotel.

Joh and her husband Gary had booked a trolley sightseeing tour and since the tickets were good for two days, they had given them to us to use that day. Even though I knew they were good, I went to ask if we could use them and was told yes. So we waited for the next trolley to come around and pick up more tourists.
Once the trolley arrived we were kind of shocked how full it was, but some people got off at that stop, as it is the stop for the Southernmost point.

We got on together with some other people and the trolley was FULL. We were lucky to catch a seat in the last row

and enjoyed seeing some of the sights of Key West.

The driver was hilariously funny while pointing out some of the houses and churches along the way. Once we had reached Mallory Square everyone was required to get off the trolley, as this is the start and end point of each tour.

We decided to check out the sponge and shell shop and after that walked over to the little shopping area there.

To be continued ............

Wow, I missed 'our' update. It was so lovely finally getting to meet you and Tom, we had a blast and loved how every time Tom tried to talk, the announcer guy kept talking over him - how rude :rotfl2:

It was so sweet of you to comment that Daniel was well behaved - either you are being incredibly polite or, more likely, he knew he had already pushed his luck with us during the 'Hemingway House pond' incident earlier in the day and was on his best behaviour ;)

I really hope we get to meet up with you again some day

P.S. Glad you could make use of the trolley tickets :thumbsup2

Thank you, Jeanette.

I know, and I totally agree Karin  My DH is amazed at how my closest buddies are "my computer friends" And he really has enjoyed meeting people as well. This is from a non fanatic :upsidedow, but everyone we have met is so special :flower3:

Southernmost Point...I remember that spot!!! My mother was born in Cuba, and she was very emotional when we visited there.

Oh, Karin, what an incredible view! I'd have to drag myself off that balcony! Gorgeous!

Aren't DIS Meets the best? It is like meeting long time friends and family. Disney folks have a special connection. Great photos of you all!:goodvibes

Jeannette - so true.... "computer friends" are some of the dearest people I've been blessed to know.

Looks like you are really enjoying yourselves. :thumbsup2 That breakfast of yours was not too shabby, either! We had a alot of fun in Key West when I turned 40- we stayed at the Pier House at the end of Duval- right near Mallory Sq, which we never visited on that trip- too busy celebrating on Duval Street, I guess! :rotfl:

Karin, I am enjoying your pictures of Key West. Your hotel was beautiful! What a great DisMeet too!

Karin...Looks like you are having the best time. The pictures of Key West are beautiful and your view from your balcony is gorgeous, I would sit out there for hours. Yummy breakfast and once again I have to eat my boring lunch. Yes, DISmeets are the best!! :)

Karin,
Just found your trip report today - I'm late to the party!! I found your last trip report close to the time you finished it so glad I got in earlier this time :) The view from your balcony looked amazing!!!

Ooh, that breakfast looks really fresh and yummy. I think my family went on that tour when we were in Key West.

It's really cool that you had a great guide. We know how important that is right? I'm talking about the Jungle
Cruise of course.

Can't wait to hear about the rest of your day! Btw, I started my PTR! It's in my signature.

All caught up. Great looking food on the plane as always.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: for two DISmeets already on the trip.

Krispy Kremes...what I wouldn't do for one of those now.

Your room in Key West is beautiful.

One of these days we have to get there; the trolley ride would be something Mark would like.

You caught the update soon enough, Joh!
We had such a wonderful time meeting you, Gary and Daniel!

And my comment about Daniel being so well behaved was a serious one. Tom and I would talk ever so often about how amazingly well behaved he was. You did a great job there! :thumbsup2

And thanks again for the tickets. They came in super handy! We made good use of them that day! :goodvibes

Tom enjoys meeting my DISfriends too! He even joined the DISboards, is just very quiet. ;)

The hotel is just a few steps from Southernmost Point. :thumbsup2

Yeah for celebrating your 40th in Key West ...... such a fun place to be. :thumbsup2
And don't worry, every year I want to go to Mallory Square to watch the sunset, but we have yet to make it there. :rotfl2:

Do you realize how many pages you have here? I am away from dis for a month and you just don't wait, do you ;) However, with your handy dandy links I may just be able to catch up. :goodvibes

Airplane Food -

I know I say it each and every time I see your food, but YUMM!!! I just don't understand quick how we have settled into crackers and peanuts. I do remember having real food...once upon a time...

Airport Hyatt -

I thought of you when I walked through MCO recently. What a brilliant idea to stay a night there after a long travel day. I do not have quite the time you do... but with layovers and such we are a full day.

Owners Locker Package -

Oh my goodness! That would have been so frustrating! I am glad that it was found though!

Airport Food Court -

It is always so hard to find food at the airport! And your pizza didn't look all that great. I am sure you had tons of good food come your way soon though!!

Breakfast at WGPE -

Someday, I HAVE to eat there. YUM!!

Dismeet at World of Disney -

I think meeting people from dis just make the trip so much more special!!! How cool you got an unplanned one :goodvibes

Drive to Miami -

What a scary drive! The fall rain in FL is just crazy! Glad you made it to Miami though and saw some blue skies.

Getting off the highway -

:lmao: I should have figured you wouldn't be too far into your trip before Krispy Kreme entered into your journey.

Marriot in Key Largo -

What a nice room! I love all that space. :thumbsup2

Dive Training in Pool -

Wow, that is interesting. After trained...do the people go out into the ocean?

The Beach Hotel -

I love this one the most so far! The colors are so calming!! Your view is awesome too. The pictures are just amazing. :goodvibes

Lunch at the Turtle Kraal-

While the food may not have been stellar... it looks like you had good company and the the turtle race was looks like a fun little game. Too bad no one one the big prize. :goodvibes

Hi Karin! I don't get on the boards much anymore, but I was thinking about you and thought 'hey I bet she has a new TR I'm missing!". Lucky for me you're not too far in to it so I'm all caught up now. ;)

I've lived in Florida for 27 years but I've never been to the Keys! Your hotel there looks really lovely. I'd love to visit the Hemingway House, did you see a lot of cats there?
