I know the last thing anyone wants to think about is getting sick in the world. However, it happened to me this past week. I woke up in very bad pain with a swollen lymph node. (I know it sounds pretty odd) My boyfriend called the front desk and they gave us a lengthy list of numbers to call. The majority were clinics who claimed to be open 24hrs and were not because we called at 6am and they said they were closed. Finally, we called an in room doctor service who said they would be there in an hour. The doctor came right to our room and was very friendly and helpful. He diagnosed me within 45mins, gave me a bottle of ibuprofin and had an antibiotic delievered to the resort within two hours. He was friendlier than any doc I've ever had at home! It was very helpful for me not to have to go sit in an ER for hours and hire a cab. I just wanted to put the word out just in case this happens to anyone on vacation. The company is called DOCS (Doctors on Call Service). The doctor I had was Steven Bodiak. I was very thankful that the service was so quick and convenient...so I was able to get back out the next day. I couldn't have asked for better service and kindness from a doctor. He helped me remember that i was still in the disney magic! :) If anyone needs it, their number is 1-888-399-DOCS. Just wanted to share my experience!

Nice to hear you had a good experience in such an unfortunate instance. I will take the # with me next week. Sure hope I don't need it!!princess:

Several years ago our youngest DD came down with a double ear infection and we used the same organization. They were awesome... and I didn't think that spending 60.00 was too bad. They didn't take our insurance (HMO) but that was ok..we just wanted her better.

Traeling with a group in june, I will be sure to take this number! Thanks so much. And hope I don't need it!!!;)

Thanks for the information, I will take the phone number with us, too!! Two years ago our son woke up with a very painful ear infection on our first full day at DW. Since we had been there quite a few times before we know about the walk-in clinic right around the corner from hotel blvd. We took him there and only waited for a few minutes. There is a pharmacy connected to it, so we picked up his perscriptions and were back in our room in less than 2 hours. Just another way to go if you have a rental or your own car. They did except our insurance for the visit, but not for the medicines....

$60 is a lot cheaper than what the ER would have cost you... Even with my insurance.... $60 is cheaper and not to have to sit around for hours and wait is even better!

Glad to hear that things worked out for you!

Our family has had various experience with Florida health care during Disney vacations. One trip DD (then 15 months) had a double ear infection and we ended up at Celebration hospital emergency room - excellent care. Another trip DH came down with a mysterious virus that had him knocked out for a couple of days. We also had the in-room care (we were at the YC) The dr was AWESOME! So friendly and caring and was able to give DH some prescription medicine. He was also a geek like DH and stayed longer to talk pda's! (he was coveting DH's) Last November DD (then 4) had a TICK in her head (we must have brought it from home) and we went to CentraCare (I think that was the name - near dtd) Again, excellent care.

This last trip DS9 got a bee sting while near the carousel and we went to the first aid station and the woman there was so gentle and kind - gave him this elastic-type holder with ice in it to have on his arm.

I HOPE that we never need medical help again when we are at Disney, but it's good to know it's available.

Has anyone had DOCS go to a fort wilderness campsite? We needed to take my son last year to a walk in very late at night and this service would have been so much better.

Thank you so much for this information!! :D We'll definitely be taking this phone number with us to WDW, just in case.

We did the same thing last year when DD woke up sick. I thought she might have strep and didn't want to deal with finding a clinic. We called the on call doctor and he came over and couple hours later. He was so incredibly nice and took his time with Emma all in the comfort of the hotel room. It was absolutely wonderful! I feel so much better knowing now that if the occasion ever arose there is always a doctor close by.

When I talked to the doctor from DOCS, he mentioned that he goes to all hotels in Orlando. And I think i forgot to mention this when you all were talking about costs, the grand total was actually $305. From my understanding, all visits are $250 and my antibiotic was $55. Luckily, our insurance co will reimburse all costs at the end of the year. If you really look at how much time and money and not to mention fun that you would lose in a day with someone being sick, I thnk that it is def. worth it.

Great thread! I was at ASM in Aug 2000 and a friend had strange pains in the side of her head and neck. We had run around from EE through E-night so we weren't overly concerned but the front desk said our only option was an ambulance. It's good to have that number, thanks!

I think I may have posted the wrong number...it's 407(not 1 800) 399 DOCS...sorry about the mixup
