If there was a new ending date, would you extend?

If DVC offered a new end date for sale now, would you buy?

  • Yes, I can't wait to extend

  • No, I'm not interested

  • Not right now, maybe in the future

There are always discussions on when/if DVC will extend it's end date. This has got me wondering, if DVC offered an extention of it's end date NOW, would you buy it?

I don't think I would. I'm 45, DH is 43. At the end of my contract we'll be in our 80's. My kids are teens. I don't know how interested they'll be in owning.

If I were to extend, I wouldn't do it any time soon. My kids would have to be much older and know they want to continue to vacation at WDW.

I wouldn't extend. I don't think DS and DD would be interested. I'd be waaaay too old. I'll be lucky if I see the end date we currently have. :earseek:

I would wait to see if it increased the value of DVC enough to warrant the expense. Also if my children wanted it.

I would extend if they gave us at least a 50 year window like they did when OKW first starting selling.

It will be interesting to see if they extend the end date for the new Saratoga Springs Resort which opens in 2004. :smooth:

I am 47 and it would be my kiddies that would benefit. What the heck, I sort-of like em.

I would extend to ensure something for my 2 DS's and their (hopefully) future DS/DD's - if they chose not to use it then I would resell or we would use it until we could not anymore due to health or other reasons.

In 2042, we would be 75, not really that old........

Thanks

Probably not right now, unless it was a very good offer and our daughters wanted to eventually have the contracts. We will be in our mid 80s when 2042 rolls around.

I didn't vote because it would depend on the specifics. Maybe yes, maybe no.

I had to answer no. I am going to be 100 in 42, the year I was born. What do you think? did I give the right answer?

I voted no. And if they started a DVC II with SSR I would not buy in there either.
If our kids want to extend its up to them,we'll be to old for an extention

I will be in my 80's with the current expiration date. I will worry about that then!

hi: i didn't vote-it would depend on the deal. we'll be late 80's (kissing 90) at that point. i would like to extend if the kids and grandkids would make use of this. we did have a really interesting and funny thread going a couple of years ago about "geriatric dvc"- extra ramps, elevators, nursing staff on site, etc.

I am in with the majority of opinions posted so far........at this point, No, I am not interested in extending my membership beyond 2042, By, '42, I will hopefully still be alive and enjoying WDW and will be in my late 80's! At this point I will have gotten many years of DVC vacations, if my kids/grandkids want to continue the membership at that time, that would make me very happy but that will be totally up to them!

If offered, the only reason to extend NOW would be because, knowing Disney, the extension "FEE" will only go up in price in the future! Lol!

Even if we won't be around to use it, our kids will. Also it will probably affect the resale value of our contract. Those that are "extended" will probably have a higher valuation than those contracts that end in 2042. JMO.

Currently, I don't have enough vacation time to justify adding more points and I've reached my self imposed cap on what I'm willing to pay for monthly dues.

I also think that my next "timeshare" purchase may be thru Marriott or Starwood. They both have great resorts at places I'd like to stay and I like that they are "forever". They can be passed down to future generations of KNWVIKING's.

I also believe the 7 month window will work as easily for SSR as it does for OKW. I don't think I'll have any trouble getting in.

As for beyond 2042, well I think I'll let my kids worry about that. If they want to pay the premiums to extend it knowing they will eventually reap the benifits then count me in. But otherwise I'll be 83'ish with about 3 brain cells still functioning so you can just tell me I went to WDW and had a great time and I'll just believe you. Just make up some cool stories and I won't know the difference.

I'll be turning 77 in 2042, but I plan (hope) to be able to spend more years going to Disney after that time, too!

I voted no, as I can't see any simple way to be able to calculate what is "fair value" for something that doesn't come into effect for another 40 years.

There is no "tangable" or immediate advantage to paying out money now, I'll be in my 80s by 2042. I'll be overjoyed if I make it to 2042 but I think any benefit, to me, is limited. If my kids want to get involved they can do so with their own money, both DD's will be in their 50s by then so , IMHO they should be able to make that financial choice for themselves by then.

I voted no due to the fact that I'll be 101 at that time. If my heirs would want to pay for it they could, but I don't think they would.

From an accounting time-value-of-money point of view, the current value of such an extension would be a lot smaller than most people would think, and also very uncertain. I don't see any point in purchasing an extension more than 10 years in advance.

 Let's see, 55years old now,in 2042 I will be 94, or worm food. I don't think so, Tim!
