Hi everyone

just back from a fantastic 10 days at WDW. I wanted to caution anyone planning to share a meal. Both times that my husband & I tried to share a meal - they screwed it up.

The first time we tried to share was at Prime Time 50's Cafe. I had been keeping track of the TS meals that we had used and knew how many the receipt should say. I questioned the waitress or "cousin" (as they call themselves) I knew she had charged us for 2 TS instead of 1 - she told me she went by meal and not number in party - but I could check with my resort when I returned and they could show me what other restaurant rang us up incorrectly. Up to this point - we had always used 2 TS - I knew it was her but there was no since in arguing over it - she was very insistant that it was NOT her.

We returned to our hotel - and just as I thought - she had charged us 2 TS instead of 1. I had to give POR my receipt and they credited back the 1 TS that we were charged too much.

The next time we tried to share a meal was at Sci Fi. This time the waiter seemed to know what he was doing - even repeated back to me that he would split the ticket so that I could pay for my drink and charge us with only one TS. When I got the receipt I could see that he had split the ticket but it did not look the same as the other receipts I had received.

That evening (Friday) we were having dinner at Cap'n Jacks pirate: at downtown Disney and the waiter brought to my attention that I still had 1 tableservice left & proceeded to ask if we had shared a meal somewhere. I commented that we had just shared a meal earlier for lunch at the Sci Fi dinner theater that should have taken care of the extra TS meal. He asked to see my receipts and continued to tell me that he did a room charge instead of using my table service. He told me that he had heard that some of the waiters/waitress did this in hopes of extra tips - the normal 15% was figured in & then the receipt had an additional place for tip again - I told him that I thought the receipt looked strange but could not figure out why . . . . now I know why - so again we went to our resort and gave them the receipt and they took it off of the room charge and applied it to the table service.

I would like to add that we discovered that the food at the places that are greatly "themed" was not as good. We ate at Whispering Canyon - the food was OK - I loved the pulled pork but the rest was just OK - after eating there we decided to share a meal at Prime Time Cafe and was very disappointed with the fried chicken (very dry) so I changed our dinner at Sci-Fi to a lunch and decided to share it. We found that the food at these places were not worth the $.

After arriving I did several changes to the plans that I had already made before arriving. We added Ohana's - it was great. Be aware that it takes some time to eat here. We were seated 5:10 p.m. and did not finish meal until after 7:00 - it was just the 2 of us. It sometime seemed that the larger parties got more attention then couples. We waited a lot between portions of the meal.

I would also like to add that our meal at Cap'n Jacks pirate: at downtown disney was GREAT. We actually ended up eating there twice. The crab cake appetizers and surf & turf entrees were wonderful!!!

Sorry so long - just wanted to make sure that anyone wanting to share - be very careful.

Thanks OP, we are leaving Friday and want to try Cap n Jack's but due to the bad reports almost decided not to. Do they give you receipts at all the meals that tell you how many remaining credits you have left? DD and I plan to share because neither of us eat a lot.

Yes - you get a receipt with each meal. Your receipt (if using a table service) will state the number you have LEFT after the meal you are paying for at that moment (I hope that makes since). If you are using counter service it will show you how many counter services you have left AFTER deducting for the counter service you were paying for at that time.

Make sure you see this on the receipt or most likely they are charging it to your room. That is what happened to us at Sci-Fi. At that time I was not sure what a room charge looked like. Your receipt will ALWAYS give you a total of the TS or CS that you have left. If it does not - they are charging it to your room.

We were at downtown disney last week and decided instead of going back to POR to eat at Boatwright's we would stay at DTD and try Cap'n Jacks. You cannot make PS it is walk-up only. We ate 2 nights and arrived between 5-6 p.m. - both times were able to sit on the lakeview tables. My hubby & I are not big fish eaters - which made us even more apprehensive on eating here.
The first dinner we had here - I tried the Crab Cakes and my husband got a tomatoe salad. The crab cakes were awesome (I guess they should be for 3 crab cakes for $15) It also had a small leafy lettuce with the crab cakes. My husband love the crab cakes too - we shared. The waiter informed me that we could also have the surf & turf (which was not on menu) - included sirloin steak with lobster tail. I hesitate at first because I also got a surf & turf at LeCelliars on our first night's dinner. The lobster was horrible. I could not for the life of me get much of a bite out of the tail - which made me not really want to order it again. The waiter suggested that I try it - especially as they are a "seafood" restaurant. He told me - I guarantee you that you will have pleanty of lobster that is bulging out and easy to eat. I went ahead and ordered the surf and turf - it was GREAT. The lobster was soooo much better than the lobster at LeCelliar - I was amazed.

The second dinner we ate at Cap'n Jacks - my husband had the full rack of ribs. I tried a bite before we left - we both agreed - they had to be the best ribs and most tender we have ever had.

If you have any further questions - would be happy to help - if I can.
Thanks
Teresa

I just wanted to say the same thing....we loved Cap't Jacks. It was our favorite meal last time and so many people do not care for it. We love shellfish and all seafood, we appreciate good fish dishes. We had clams, crabcakes, oysters and the fish special and loved it! The service was great and the atmosphere, too. They were crowded when we went but there was space at the bar, so we sat there - it was fun! Great cocktails, too ;)

Glad to hear others feel the same way :flower: :flower: :flower:

Teresa - thanks for the heads up on splitting meals.

I've just got back and we had a really bad time at 50's Pime Time.

My db ordered the meatloaf, but when it arrived, it was terrible. He had to send it back. My seafood pasta wasn't much better either and both were obviously pre-cooked which was a little disappointing considering the cost.

The waiter suggested my db tried the pot roast, which he grudgingly did. He didn't like that either and we ended up sharing my meal which wasn't particularly nice :(

When the bill arrived we were more than a little surprised to see that, not only had we been charged for a meal that wasn't good enough to eat, we had been charged for the more expensive of the two (the pot roast), which we hadn't actually ordered.

This whole situation lasted about an hour and, after barely eating lunch, we decided just to pay and leave. We had to take more time out of our day later to eat again, so we missed the Indiana Jones show which we were lookin forward to and had to go back later in the week.

After reading the previous post, it sounds like we weren't the only ones who didn't enjoy this place.

We, too, love Cap'n Jack's! I have always been reluctant to mention this on any of the boards because it seems to be a place that has a bad rep with some people.

The chowder is yummy, the crab cakes awesome.

We often stop in, sit at the bar and just do these. However, I must admit that there are times when we do share a rib dinner, too!

May have to try the surf and turf this trip...or perhaps just the surf!

:wave2: We too avoided Capt'n Jacks because of what I read here. A few months ago we ate lunch there on a Saturday. We were both very pleasantly surprised at how good the food and service were.
Give it a try! pirate:
