if paying OOP-can you order kids meal for a 10 yr old

some of food at a few of the restaurants that we want to go to would not appeal to my 10 yr old---is it OK to order her a kids meal (chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, etc.) if we are paying OOP even though she is no longer 9?

It is fine, HOWEVER, there are a few restaurants that will charge a higher price for over 9's. They will also give larger portions, but they won't charge the kid meal price for what Disney considers an adult.

I've only heard anecdotal evidence, and only heard of one or two places that have made an issue of it.

For the most part, IMO, as long as you tell the server that you have a 10 yo who would rather get something from the kids menu, you won't get a hassle.

Of course, at any pre-plated, family style restaurants, or buffets, your child can get "kid food" with no problem, but they will be charged the adult price.

talking about fancy a la carte places--Chef's de France, for ex.--where DD would say yuck to everything there--inclduling the "adult" mac and cheese on the menu b/c it is "different" than $.50 Kraft. And since we are going to a character buffet for lunch that day, I know she will be really full, as well.

I'm not advocating lying, BUT, who will know if she is 9 or 10? They don't ask kids for ID. So, if you don't mind, just say that she is 9.

what if you just ordered the kid meal...are they going to ASK you if she's 9 vs. 10? You don't say, unless they ask.

At Raglan Road, my 13 yr. old son ordered a burger off the kids menu without any problems or additional charges when he couldn't find anything he liked on the adult menu. We didn't try it at any other restaurants, because he found something he liked on the regular menus, often an appetizer. The 9 yr. old cut-off for the Disney kids meals is kind of ridiculous. I don't know a lot of 10 or even 11 yr. olds who can eat the quantity of many of the adult meals. Plus they aren't usually interested in the choices. The Shades of Green sit-down restaurants and buffet have a cut-off of age 12. That's far more reasonable, IMHO.

If the OP is on the dining plan they will know because the card will tell them how many kids and how many adults are on the plan.

But it doesn't matter. There's no need to lie.

If you pay OOP, you can order anything you want to. Adults order off the kid's menu all the time. OP, it's no big deal.

i always order a kids meal for myself when i'm on disney properity, but i only pay out of pocket- don't ever use the ddp. i don't eat much, and the kid's meal is perfect for me. i just ask the cms very nicely for a kids meal and explain that i don't eat much and that i don't want to waist food. the only time this could be a problem is if you would go to a buffet. but if you are paying out of pocket at a buffet, just tell the cm that your son is 9 and unless they ask you to prove it (and i've never seen it happen before) they just assume that he's the age that you say he is.

If asked, I would say she is 10--b/c she is and we will certainly pay (ouch) the full adult price for her for character meals, buffets, etc. But, at least, we will probably be able to order her a small kids meal for dinner after a buffet lunch day.

Good for you! You won't have any problems having her order off the kid's menu. No worries.
