If not on the DP are we still able to make ADR?

My question is that if i ever opted out of the DP are ADR open to everyone 180 days out or just the people with DDP with theri package?
We are going on FD this year but for the future, if we opted to pay OOP, I would still like to be able to get into the places we like!

Yes, you can make ADRs with or without the dining plan.

Oh, yes. Restaurant reservations are not limited to guests on the dining plan. They are not even limited to guests of Disney resorts (although resort guests do get a bit of a head start).

Anyone can make a restaurant reservation at WDW anytime as long as it is within 180 days of the day they wish to dine.

I have another question that is related to the OP's question.

Is there a limit as to how many ADR's you can make? I know about the no show stuff and the credit card thingy. Here is our situation. DH is doing very well this quarter so it looks like we can plan a trip some time during the holiday season. Now if work drops off, the trip is off. I figure that since 180 days out will come sooner or maybe even at the same time that we would book a trip, I better get my dining situation under control and make a plan.

As soon as we can book our trip we will do so. I still don't know where we are going to stay so we are looking in to that as well. That may very well be decided after the 180 days on the dining reservation window.

So with all intentions of booking a trip, is it "all right" to book ADR's for the places that you are planning to dine at on your trip, even if you still have yet to figure out hotel accommodations/condo rentals?.. and does Disney limit you to say maybe 5 reservations if you don't have a condo rented or an on site hotel room booked?

Not at all. You are not allowed to book two restaurants for the same meal frame (in other words you can't book a 12N ADR at Mama Melrose for 12/2/12 and then another lunch ADR at Epcot for the same day). The system would show you had two ADRs for the same meal on the same day and ask you to cancel one of them. However, if you want to make ADRs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day of your trip, you can. In fact, we were on the DxDDP this past Feb and did just that.

As far as needing to be on a DDP to make ADRs, definitely not. I have two ADRs booked every day for my upcoming May trip and do not have a DDP. I am using my TiW card and paying OOP, the same way I did last Sept and Nov/Dec. Alot of people go to WDW and don't use any of the DDPs. Everyone (even offsite guests) can book as many ADRs as they want (as long as they are not for the same meal on the same day ).

Think of it this way--if you needed to have onsite reservations to a resort, that would pretty much preclude local, Florida residents who live within driving distance and only want to go to the park for one day (maybe they have passes) from ever eating in a restaurant. I doubt Disney would want to discourage people from that!
