Ok, first- is anyone else having annoying problems with trying to get to your subscription list? The links seem to not work and I have to go through CP to get there. It's annoying me to no end!!!
Phew, that's off my chest.. moving on.
Training.
I got back in the saddle- so to speak this week. My goal was 15 miles & I didn't quite make that- because we ended up with snow on Wednesday so.. eh, whatever!!
Monday- 2.3 Miles on the Dreadmill, 2.5 Miles outside = 4.8 miles!
Tuesday- 2 Miles on the Dreadmill
Wednesday- Nothing- Blizzard- work from home & no treadmill access
Thursday- 3.2 Miles on Dreadmill
Friday- -1.2 Miles on Dreadmill
Saturday- 3.1 5K Beer Run Downtown
TOTAL: 14.3 Miles. Woo!!!
So now how about some pictures of a certain 5K...
This was the Green Beer Run 5K downtown Chicago. While it was FREEZING out- it was SO much fun.
For those who don't know- Chicago has some pretty strong Saint Paddy's Day traditions the Saturday before the holiday. It's basically an all-day party complete with parade & dying the Chicago River Green. The Beer Run fit right in... and there were scores and scores of people coming into the city for this party!
The 6am commuter train was filled with young'ins hauling their alcohol to stake their parade places - all dressed up. We were decked out too and got lots of compliments... and we joked they kept saying "Way to Dress up Grandma's" because we were the oldest people around it seemed!
Anyways- we started & ended at Soldier Field (home of Da' Bears) and ran along Lake Shore Drive.
Green Beer- Start Here!!!

I didn't take a picture but those porta-potties were called "Lepra-Cans" which I thought was pretty funny!
We had an hour to kill before race- so we desperately jumped around trying to stay warm... No joking- those green wigs helped keep my head warm!!

Oh Sun.. warm me up, please!!!

There were about 1,500 runners... and we moved into the holding area for the start..

They would let so many go and then hold them back for the next wave. The course itself was on a bike/running path and it was a turnaround path.. so it was VERY narrow and that was a problem...
Also, it was still full of ice and we had to dodge ice patches.
It didn't really matter to me because this was an unchipped race & my friend hadn't trained...and so I kept her pace..and we walked some- we just had fun!
At one point- I did fall in a pothole and hurt my leg.. but thankfully it seems okay today!
The beautiful skyline. Even on freezing cold days, it's a beautiful run! I love my city!

We finished!!!

The medals they gave us were SO nice- seriously as heavy as the Disney half medals... all for a 5K!!! I love, love, love my green beer medal.

I totes want to wear into my office tomorrow along with my wig.
We headed back in to collect our Green Beer.. of course!!

And then over to listen to the DJ while we drank... and posed for some pics!!

By now, we were completely numb..so we debated our next move. That was, of course, over to see the awesome Green Chicago River. We decided to spring for a cab to warm up... and we joined the masses over on the other side of town....
Pictures really can't even capture it- it's so awesome!!

We were still numb so we ducked into a bar and had ourselves another drink! (It was not even 11 yet!!)

And then hauled ourselves to the train station to have another drink...while waiting for our train back to reality.
It was great fun!!! What a great way to celebrate running and St. Paddy's Day!
P.S- I am also going to attempt to update my actual TR tonight to FINALLY get through another day!!
