What does this mean for me (leaving in 3 days and just realized my airline doesn't participate according to the Disney website).
I'm flying us airways from Philly. Do I have to get my baggage at MCO and take it to the DME bus?

On the way to the hotel all you need to do is put the baggage tags on your luggage and it will make it to your hotel fine. On the way from the hotel to the airport you will be in charge of your own luggage, put it on the coach than check it at the airport.

Thank you! I hadn't even read the DME stuff from Disney...just assumed my DH did and all was well!

Just to clarify. The luggage tags are bright yellow and you need to place them on your bags so DME can identify your bags.

The more I read, the more confused I get!
We are flying US Airways. I totally understand that on the way home, (because US Air is 'non-participating")we can't use the airline/baggage check-in at the resort, although we can still use DME to get to MCO.

However, in going to MCO from home, will we get the special luggage tags to put on our luggage and Disney will retrieve our luggage from US Airways baggage claim and get it to our resort for us?
Or, do we not put special tags on it, go ahead and claim it ourselves at MCO, take it to the DME check-in, and have it put on the bus with us?

Thanks,
Jill

either way will work, but you can use the yellow tags with any airline.

(edited to correct answer)

There is a sticky thread at the top of the thread listings called "What Participating Airlines Really Means" -- The first post of that thread will answer all of your questions.

Hi Jill, I think some are misreading your question. I think you're asking about your arrival at MCO, from your home airport. So....yes, put those yellow tags on your bags when you leave your house. When you hand your bags over at the airport, say goodby to them, you won't see them again until they arrive in your resort room. When you get to MCO, just get off the plane, head right to DME checkin area. Of couse, take a restroom break, grab something to eat if need be...there is no rush. When you checkin at the welcome desk, you'll be asked how many pieces of luggage you have, they will note the number, and you'll be directed to the appropriate bus line for your resort and off you go. Your luggage should arrive in your room a few hours later.
For your return, if you aren't on a participating airline, you are correct, you just head to the DME bus, with your luggage in hand, and go back to the airport. No big deal.

sorry... i'm pretty sure *something* changed there, or something was seriously wrong with me (i'd believe either), corrected my answer.

Perfect, thank you so much. I know there is a sticky and lots of threads about this, but there is also lots of confusion within the threads!
So for ANY airline, "participating" or not, when we are heading to MCO we can put the special tags on our baggage at our home airport and NOT have to deal with the bags again until they are delivered to our resort room. THanks!
Jill
