Hello,

In Dec. I bought a luggage tag and put on it "If I am lost I have autism my name is...with all of the other info needed. I put a sticker on it with an autism ribbon on it. By the middle if the trip the sticker was coming off. I used a slip knot to attach it to his belt loop on his pants.

This year we are going in June and he will have some shorts with no belt loops. The tag will also be getting wet. I would like some ideas that you may have and I would LOVE to see some pictures of what you have used.:goodvibes

Thank-You!!

I will add that I want something on it that they will know he has autism like the ribbon, that they can see.

Could you maybe got to kinkos ( or a place like that) and have it laminated and then you can buy badge clips at walmart and clip it to the back of the shrit? I'm don really know, but I'm just trying to throw out some idea.

I use shipping size labels and attach them to the back of my sons shirts. (He would rip them off if in the front.)

What about those temporary tattoos that you can buy and put it on his upper arm? I think you can have the Autism part put on it. I know a contact number can be placed there and possibly the child's name. I thought that if it is on the upper arm, people who don't have any business knowing that info won't see it, but maybe your child will want to show the Cm his tattoo.

I found this site you might be interested in.

How about shoe tags? You can buy these on the internet, and they will fit on most shoes. They're normally bright colours, and I think CMs would be able to spot them. The only problem is, to view the info on them, your son would have to let a CM get to his shoes and take the tag off. Also, if he fiddles with his shoes, he might take these off himself.

There are loads of other products out there, if the shoe tags wouldn't work for him. A quick search found this site:

but there are hundreds of others out there. Might he wear something if it was cool / fun / chosen by him? Would he be able to show these details to a CM if he got lost? Another option would be a cheap GPS tracker. You can get them for about $30, and they're key-chain sized. This might be over-doing it for your needs, I just thought I'd mention it in case.

As others have said, laminating something is a great way to make a waterproof tag fairly cheaply. If you make a hole in the paper, to attach it to a clip / tag, don't punch it straight into the laminated paper. If you do this, the paper around the hole isn't covered by the plastic, so will go soggy as soon as it gets wet. Make sure you either cut it larger than the paper and punch through just the plastic; or make a hole in the paper before you laminate it, then make a smaller hole in the middle of this.

Hope this helps! :thumbsup2

I thought of the tattoo but I don't think my son would show it. I don't think he would realize he was lost if it did happen and he wouldn't show the tattoo to be found. But thanks for the idea!

These are great ideas too! I didn't think about laminating it :)

Thank you so much! Such a great tip about the laminating!!:goodvibes

I bought some dogtags last year from ebay. I can't remember the exact id of the seller, but it was something like lazr art. Anyway, they had many examples of different special needs tags.

ds had t shirts printed with autism awareness and we also had laminated cards on his lanyard (and loved pin trading with CMs)
he also has an everyday emergency contacts necklace for here in the uk, whilst they would struggle to contact us with the info on this, at least they would be able to see his asd..
tracy

on eBay there is a seller named mridtag or something along those lines. I had him make my son a tag and we LOVE it. Two sided, front side has just our names and numbers, back side has his g'parents names/numbers as well as instructions not to offer him any food of any kind and that he carries medications and medical equipment with him. I found the guy when buying tags for the dog (and he makes awesome tags there as well), but he gladly made me one for my child, and very cheap.

Ah, mridtag.com

I got the safety temporary tattoos for my ds and it has the Autism puzzle piece on it and says "I'm Autistic,,please call........" I put it right on his right hand wrist so it's very visible especially since he is right handed you can't miss it. They wash off easily with baby oil and I reapply them every day.

We use a Medic ID Bracelet for my youngest autistic/ medically fragile son (and our youngest medically fragile daughter). They can print anything you want on the back (Your phone number if you choose) as well as have a Toll free number that can be called to give any and all kinds of information you deem necessary in an emergency, including how to contacrt you. For children the cost is $10 per year, plus the bracelet. It gives me daily peace of mind, not just at Disney. Their number is 1-800-625-3780. Website is medicalert.org. I am a newbie, so I can't post links (I am sorry).
