I'm rather irritated at the moment. I just came home from a 16 hour shift to find an election sign stuck in my yard. Not just the area of grass between the sidewalk and the street, but fully in my yard. I do not know this person from Adam, had no clue this person was running for State Senate. I certainly will not support anyone whose campaign is so careless of other people's property. It just makes me mad. I don't go around posting signs in your yard, don't post them in mine. What if I had a huge difference in values? What if that sign had violated a city ordinance (our city can be rather particular)? I don't want to face a fine because of something somebody else put on my property (in this case I don't think I would have). What if somebody had decided to vandalize my yard because they didn't like this person? I have a friend who had that happen to their car because somebody didn't like their political bumper sticker.

Sorry for the rant, it's late and trying to pry a sign out of my yard that was shoved in pretty well was not on my list of things to do tonight.

Could it be possible someone requested a sign and a campaign worker put it in the wrong yard? In my parents neighborhood the house numbers on some of the streets are the same. We kept getting mail for a person who lived one street over but had the same house number.

Could be an honest mistake. Though if it keeps happening a polite call to the campaign office might be in order.

The same thing happens to me a lot. The directions of an address (N, S, E, W) are quite important in our town. Luckily, the people who's address often gets mixed up with ours is very nice so we call each other when something is delivered to the wrong address.

Well the person who lived in the other house that had the same number as ours turned out to be my high school counselor. So if we ever got his mail by mistake I would take it into school and drop it off at his office. For some reason he never got our mail.

I hadn't thought about the possibility of the wrong address. I definitely live on a "direction" street. I have never recieved other people's mail at this address other than the previous owners. If it was an honest mistake, I don't feel quite so peeved, (although still wasn't what I expected at the end of a long shift). I'm just surprised that people would still post them. I'm not familiar with how campaigns work. Wouldn't they just leave the sign for the homeowner to post where the please?

We live on the corner of main street in our town and the unapproved signs really annoy me.

You have to get a permit to put up signs and you are supposed to get permission from the owners. You are also supposed to remove your sign.

I don't mind if someone puts a sign in our yard temporarily and then picks it back up, really I don't! It drives me crazy when people leave their signs up in MY yard for days or weeks.

There is a house about 10 houses down that is for sale. About a month ago, they held an open house and put a "for sale" sign in our yard, pointing the way to their house. There were balloons attached to the sign too. Well, I finally took their sign down last week.

If they had asked at any time during the last month, we are pushovers and would have said yes. They couldn't even be bothered to ask so after what I considered to be a very fair amount of time, it is now down.

Also, their realtor wasunprofessional by placing the sign without asking permission.

We are pretty laid-back as far as signs go, since we live on the corner. This last one really bugged me though!

I think it's pretty standard for the campaign worker to post the sign if the homeowner requested it. They can move it if they don't like where it was posted but the workers want to get them posted ASAP. It does sound like it was posted in your yard by mistake unless they suddenly appeared in everyone's yards.

Several years ago, there was an election for police chief in the city where we lived. We had just purchased a townhome from a police officer. Another officer who also lived there moved out and rented the house next door. But, our house was still known as a cop hangout since two of them used to live there. They would come by on their breaks looking for the two cops and I would direct them next door. One day I came home to find a campaign sign for one of the police chief candidates posted in our yard. I figured someone still thought it was the cop's house and put it there. I took it down and put it on the porch of the cop next door and he ended up putting it in his yard. I figured that's where it was supposed to be in the first place.

That's not something I would get upset over. If I didn't want the sign in my yard I would simply pull it up and toss it in the trash. Or call them and tell them to come and pick up their sign.

That's me, too. Annoying, yes. But easily remedied.

But if it was for someone I truly didn't like and had no intention of voting for, I'd be sorely tempted to paint on it, "DON'T VOTE FOR" and leave it there. If anyone asked, I'd tell them I didn't ask for the sign so it must have been heavenly providence that it was placed on my lawn without my permission. :rotfl: And if it was replaced, depending on my mood (and how long my DH would let me get away with it), I'd continue to deface each clean replacement sign.

But that's just me. DH says I often have too much time on my hands for someone with my imagination and desire to do evil things. LOL!!

When my father pulled a sign he no longer wanted in his yard, they just kept coming back to replace it. He'd come home from work and it would be there again, it was like they had people patroling to see if anyone had removed them. I'm not sure if they all do that but whatever campaign he was supporting did.

OP, even though its an inconvenience I would call them and let them know someone put a sign on your property, its probably a mistake.

I came home from work for lunch one day to find a realtor digging a hole in my lawn for one of those big wooden real estate signs to advertise a house for sale on the road right across from my house. :confused3 When I asked her what she thought she was doing, she said "oh, I guess I should have asked first.":scared1:

On of the business down the road from where I work was having a "going out of business sale". They put several signs up in the shrubs outside my bank! We pulled them out and put them around back of the building. They never did come looking for their signs so we pitched them in the trash. Going Out of Business signs in front of a Bank is not a good thing!:scared:

:lmao: I'd want to do that to. Or get a can of red spray paint. Paint a big circle over the sign and a slash through it. Like the Do Not Enter signs. Only this would be "Do Not Vote for..."

I agree not a big deal at all. Call them and request no signs in your yard. Don't you live in an apt?

Call the campaign and ask them for the address of where to send the invoice for the rental fees on the advertising space they are using in your yard. :thumbsup2:cool1::banana:

Around here, I can't imagine someone putting a campaign sign on a lawn without asking permission! I'm guessing it was a mistake, and they got the address wrong (here, if you agree, a campaign worker puts the stakes in the grass). They only have limited signs, so I don't see why they would put one in if it might be taken out.

I like that. If they give any attitude, I'd deliver it right back to them and stick it where it belongs... ;)

Just take some red spray paint and put one of these:

over his name. It won't take long for the campaign workers to come take it down. :goodvibes
