If it was open I would ask to try the heel

That's what a lady said to me today at the grocery store. :rotfl:

Publix makes a delicious 5 grain Italian bread. An older lady was behind me in line and commented on how good it looked. I told her it was excellent and should should try it sometime.
That's when she tried to get a piece of my bread. ;)

I didn't offer because frankly, it's my bread and I happen to love the heel. :rotfl:

Seriously? It takes a lot of nerve, or maybe actually a lack of manners or common sense, to do that.

:lmao: I'd have given it to her but no one in my house likes the heels and they get thrown away anyway.

The cashier in Target asked me how the Key Lime Pie gum I was purchasing tasted. After I'd paid, I opened a pack and gave her a piece. She was surprised but she did end up liking the gum. :thumbsup2

Maybe she didn't realize there was a heel in every bag? :lmao:

I've never heard the end called the heel. We always just call it the crust.

I don't understand why this is offensive? I would have laughed and given her the heel, we don't eat them here so it would have made no difference to me. I can see why you wouldn't since you eat the heel but I why be offended? I think it's just a funny thing to have someone say in a grocery store.

I would have totally given it to her, and enjoyed the warm fuzzies! What's one piece of bread?

In my house we call it the "butt."

I always find it interesting how different areas call things by different names! We have always called it the heel. But, here, in Texas, every soft drink is "coke". :)

not true. Born and raised in central Texas and until the DIS, I never heard anyone call it that(unless they were specifically asking for a Coke). Everyone I know either says soda or the specific brand they want...It really wasn't until the DIS and seeing other people in Texas say that that I ever heard of everyone in Texas calling it coke. If anything in my area it would be everything is Dr. Pepper. Maybe it's just certain parts of Texas?

btw...in regards to the bread, it is the heel. The crust is the brown part on the outside of the bread.

I wouldn't give up the heel either..:rotfl::rotfl:

My thought is she assumed (the dreaded assume!) that you didn't like the heel and so she would be tasting the part you weren't going to eat anyway.

No one in my family will eat them "as is" but I chop them up and use them for bread crumbs. :thumbsup2

I think my kids just call them "end pieces." They usually like the crusts cut off their bread and you can't very well cut the crust off the heels, since they are all crust! LOL

:rotfl:, I bet she could just taste it too:love:

MOM! I must be a long lost kid, because I'm the same way.

I can't stand French baguettes. The crust is way too hard & chewy. There is also not enough bread on the inside.

I would have given the women both of the end pieces - except I use them to keep the inside pieces from drying out. Then I toss them away. :p
