where is the best DVC to stay.
I own at BLT's and VWL. Should I wait to book at another resort at 7 months or stay at another hotel entirely.
Thanks.

Where does the race start? If it starts at Epcot, BLT would be good because you can take the monorail to Epcot.

I would wait and see what the official race hotels are. When I thought I was going to run this year, I had a reservation at AKV since it was the only DVC that was going to have the buses to the start of the race.

The absolute best place to stay for any of the marathons or half marathons is Old Key West. You can get 1-2 hours of extra sleep in the morning and then take less than a 10 minute walk to the beginning of the race. The only down side is that you can not check a bag.

My wife, daughter, daughter's friend, daughter's sorority sister, niece, and sister-in-law have done it the last two years and it was perfect staying at OKW. No problems walking over in the morning.

Request a building towards the front of the resort

I was wondering about this too - we were thinking OKW as well, but I had heard that they don't like people to walk to the start?

I or my wife have walked over from OKW for approximately 12 races. The "official" response from the front desk or Disney employees is that they would prefer you ride the buses, but NO ONE has ever given us a hard time walking over. Disney always has a police presences at he intersection outside of OKW and the only thing ever said to us was "good morning".

Disney does discourage you from walking, I guess for safety concerns and their possible liability.

But it has been perfectly safe when we have walked over.

I think the only people on the blog discouraging you from walking over are the people who HAVEN'T walked over.

This year was the first year that we got a phone message at our villa at OKW telling us that we should not walk to the start. So the runners in the family took the bus.

We didn't get a phone call.

I believe you, but DVC can't seem to figure out how to make a split reservation but they can figure out who is running the race and leave them a message? I guess they could have programed the call for the whole resort, but I doubt that there is a very high percentage of folks there for the race.

Oh well, we are signed up for the marathon weekend and will be walking over. Maybe I'll be sorry if they stop me, but I need the extra beauty sleep in the morning.:rotfl:

It was a generic call reminding guests of the marathon and to take transportation to the start instead of walking. We hadn't gotten that in previous years.

This might not be the thread to ask about the half marathon but..... when do you find out what hotels they run buses from?
I booked BLT because I had read somewhere they had buses from the Poly.
I will continue to check and if I have to and am able to I will try to book somewhere else.
Right now I just wanted to make sure I had room.
Thank you!!!
