OK, here's the harsh, ugly truth.
Yes, it appears that
DVC has been waiving the normal cancellation penalties and allowing members to get their points back as a result of the recent hurricanes. But you have a contract (or at least you should) with a DVC member that should address this situation to some degree. I would recommend contacting the member immediately to discuss some "what if" scenarios.
If your agreement states that all the DVC member is obligated to do is book this one stay for you, then you may be forced to either take the trip or forfeit all or some of your dollars.
Hopefully the member will be willing to work something out with you. But remember that DVC memebers do have restrictions on how points can be used and when the expire. If I were forced to decide between a) refunding your money and letting my points expire with no compensation, and b) sticking to the letter of the contract, frankly I'd be inclined to choose the latter.
Now that is an extreme example. If you are forced to cancel, DVC may allow the member to bank the points a year ahead so that you or someone else can still use them. But every situation is unique.
