If I get lost in the park

I've had some friends that worry about losing their younger children in Disney World, and I was no different on my first trip to the Mouse's house with my daughter and her friend. Here is a little thing I did when we were on that trip.

I created a small tag (laminated) that I placed in each of the girls Camel Backpacks that they carried throughout the park. The tag had their name on it (Disney style of course), and my phone number. I instructed them that if they ever lost us in the park, that they were to immediately find a cast member, and have them call that number on the tag.

If your children don't have phones by now, where your number is programmed into it. I highly recommend creating one of these for them to keep on their person just in case.

Also consider taking a picture of the children each morning with your cell phone. That way you'll know what they were wearing that day.

If the concern is abduction, a backpack or coat or jacket is something that will be thrown away immediately.

A laminated contact card placed in the child's shoe is better.

I saw a picture on fb of a family that wrote their phone number (assuming a mobile) on their children's arm (on the inside) with a marker. This picture was taken here locally at a theme park we have here.

this is one of my fears, especially with my 5 year old boy.. I like the idea of taking the picture with your phone every morning. We are heading down to WDW in July. So I'm going to need all these tips

And don't tell them to smile in the picture. They're not going to be smiling when they're lost.

I've also seen parents make a beaded bracelet for each child and used beads with numbers that will read the parents number. 407-555-1234 for example.

We've never had a runner, but it's easy to get turned around & confused at WDW so I was always concerned DD would get separated, even for only a minute, and freak out. I think it's SUPER important to point out the CM's name tags & to let the kids know that they all dress differently in different areas but that ANY CM can help them if they get lost.

We only ever had one incident when DD thought I exited the restroom before her (I just had a longer wait than her & she finished fast). She left the restroom, couldn't find me right outside & oriented herself to the closest CM.. then realized I would never have walked that far away from her without telling her & came right back to the restroom. She said she was able to not freak out & think it through because she already knew how to find help if she needed it. Now we memorize each other's shoe colors so we can always find one another in the restrooms, lol.

Not necessarily abduction, but if the child is lost she can go to a cast member and provide the number, however the card in the shoe is a great idea.

I have 2 teenagers now but when we 1st went to Disney in 2008 my kids were 8 and 12. We made sure I had 1 child by the hand and my husband had the other by the hand at all times. My husband and I made sure we knew where we were going at all times and if we got separated from each other to just meet up at where we were going. At night if we stayed for the parade we were to meet up at our resort if we couldn't find each other at the bus stop. Since 2008 we have gone back every year and have done the same thing and made sure we had each child by the hand especially through very crowded areas, but not so much now if it isn't crowded, we just make sure either one of the kids are behind us. As long as I can see them then we are ok. We are going back this year and now they are 13 and 17 and still we will do the same thing going through crowded areas and yes with my 17 year old too since she doesn't do well in crowds anyway.

And make sure if you send your child to ride an attraction with their father that the father KNOWS that the child is being sent with him!!! (Not that I have any experience with that or anything..,,).
Wonders of life was fairly new, mom didn't want to ride body wars so she sent me to ride with my dad and sister. We come off the ride and head 2 different directions. Of course when he saw my mother the first words out of her mouth was "where's Amy!?" "Uuuhhh...She stayed with you....didn't she?" Needless to say I was trying to stay calm and not panic because I didn't want to draw attention to the fact I was lost.
Long story short.....it's easy to lose a kid!!

I would be more worried about a lost kid than a kidnapped one. There has never been a kidnapping at wdw. A cm will not remove clothing including shoes so you kid has to be old enough to know to remove their shoe and give them the card. We did safety rats last time. They worked well.
