If I don't use return flight.....

If I don't use my return flight (US Airways) is there anyway they could penalize me for not showing up?

I am thinking of taking a few extra days for my vacation and it costs less to do a one-way for the return on another airline than it does to pay the $100 change fee plus the new rate on my current reservation.

US Airways specifically prohibits the practices commonly known as:

-- "Throw Away Ticketing"- - the use of round-trip excursion fares for one-way travel

Where a ticket is invalidated as a result of the customer’s non-compliance with any term or condition of sale, US Airways has the right in its sole discretion to:

-- cancel any remaining portion of the customer’s itinerary,

-- confiscate unused flight coupons,

-- refuse to board the customer or check the customer’s baggage,

-- assess the customer for the reasonable remaining value of the ticket, which shall be no less than the difference between the fare actually paid and the lowest fare applicable to the customer’s actual itinerary, or

-- cancel any Dividend Miles credits accrued as a result of non-compliant ticketing.



Do it at your own risk, on a return flight, there isn't much they can do except not give you any FF miles.

If you want the practical answer, then yes you can skip your return flight and they will not penalize you. The purpose of all that airline rules jargon is to discourage you from doing it because they know they make more on the one way than the RT. Either way, they got paid for the ticket and have an empty seat on the way back. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, they really can't do anything to penalize you.

Double check the rules for your original ticket, some airlines let you modify the return date with nothing more than the USD 100. or so change fee.

If you change the beginning (outgoing) flight then they also charge you the currebnt fare for the trip.

I've done that before and haven't been penalized. I don't know why they'd care - the seat is paid for!

I believe that lagasan said the one way return is on a different airline. There shouldn't be ANY problem then, with not using the return half of your original ticket. But you might not get your FF miles, if you care.
