If I cancel my stay today do I lose all my points for the stay? I am supposed to check in today but today's Florida numbers have me feeling uneasy.

That I'm not sure of. If you have someone lined up maybe you can have the reservation changed? I'm not sure how that would work with park reservations/tickets though. Someone else may have better info on that.

You already have a buyer who is comfortable with the numbers even though you are not? One that can get to Florida today? Assuming that is true, you can probably get the name on the reservation changed, but you may have to call them. Doubt you would be able to get ME set up for them, so they would have to secure their own transportation to the resort. However once there, assuming you called DVC you should be able to get them in the room. (Just tell them you were unable to make it, but someone else is going in your place and they should be happy to fix that for you).

However, their activities will be limited. I have not checked the resort based park reservation, but I know the AP ones are sold out (booked). Assuming they just want to sit around the pool or visit Disney Springs, they may be able to do that.

You bring up some good points. The only park not available to resort guests is HS the others are open.

We cancelled 2 days before our reservation last week and got all our points back. I called before and they told me that we couldn’t do it same day. Can you go in and modify it to 1 day in the lowest point room to minimize your loss?

I will check. Thank you for the suggestion.

I left early once. The points used for "day of" were lost ... but the points used for the remaining nights were placed back into my account as "holding points."

Thus:
  • None of my points were returned to their normal status.
  • Most of my points came back as 'holding points.'
  • I lost only 1 night of points.
FWIW, this was many years ago. There may be other "COVID-19" policies yet in effect benefiting the owner? (I haven't been keeping up with the COVID-19 DVC news.)

Not sure if you have made a decision or modified your reservation yet. I had a reservation for a renter 7/6/20 - 7/10/20. I do not believe they showed up because they were coming from the U.K. I checked my account this morning and I was only charged for the first night's points and the rest were returned to the current use year. No points were placed into Holding. I was surprised to see that DVC returned points for the remaining nights to my account. Good luck.

Is there any penalty if you cancel a day before--within 24 hours?

There are temporary rule changes right now but subject to change without notice

Normally, day before puts points into holding. Those now expire end of The UY of the canceled trip and can only be used for trips booked 60 days or less from check in.

Since March, they are waiving that. At sometime it will end so I think members should always be aware of that and cancel 31 days or more just in case things change back to normal rules
