...do you still get all the "perks" of buying from Disney?

What exactly ARE the perks (of buying from Disney, new or rofr?)? All I can find are vague lists. What kind of ticket discount is it? Etc?

I have been thinking, with aging, not-in-good-health parents that when the time comes I'd like to use a portion of my inheritance to make a cash purchase with DVC...I am Canadian, so will have to deal with exchange, but trying to figure out the best use of the funds. Buying resale, new from Disney, or rofr resale from Disney.

I understand most of the rest, I think, borrowing points, banking them, etc. Most trips would likely be spring, as I can't handle the humidity of summer. But it would be neat to see the Christmas decor etc.

Editing b/c i though of something else....I know about Aulani....but does buying dvc get you anything in the non-U.S. parks? Any discounts, any accomidation available?

Yes, that would be a contract bought directly from Disney. You don't really know where the points came from anyway. They could also be from a foreclosure. It's irrelevant at any rate.

There's a ton on the other DVC forums here about the discounts. Peruse "DVC Mousecellaneous" and "DVC Member Services" and you'll find a lot of good info. (Or post the question there :) ) And don't forget the official DVC site: https://disneyvacationclub.disney.go.com/discounts-perks-offers/

The reality is that the only real ticket discount these days is on the AP, and the other "exclusive" benefits mostly require that your trip be at the right time (and the member events are never announced 11 months out).

I would first consider your preferred resort and travel habits, not ephemeral perks you probably won't use.

I caution you to not consider any perks when buying. Reason, they change and are only offered if they make Disney money. What you say??? Disney uses the perks as an inducement for people to spend more money buying direct to get the perks. Plus discounts for things like AP's cause you to visit longer and/or more often so you end up spending more. Each DVD/DVC executive has put their own spin on discounts, direct pricing, and perks and we have had 3 different executives in the last few years.
