If I were to borrow points for next year's trip from my 2011 points, they will only take out what I need to make up the difference for my ressie, right?

Also we are not using this year's points (we had DPs we used for our trips this year). If I plan on adding those to use for next year's trip do I need to bank them before I make the ressie?

------------------------

I have 160 pt contract. We are thinking about going with my in-laws next April and plan on reserving a two bedroom at AKV/AKL (the sofa bed WILL NOT do for my in-laws so a one bedroom is out). Since we are not using our points for this year, I plan on banking them. We will also have next year's points to use, so that gives us 320 points for our vaycay. Since a two bedroom standard view for the week will plan on going will be 370 points, I'll need to borrow to make upt he difference......hence my questions.

TIA!

P.S. THIS ONE'S A BIGGIE: What happens if my in-laws end up not going (we'll give them a well in advance deadline), what happens to all of my points (banked and borrowed) if I need to switch us to a one bedroom or studio?

Yes, go ahead and bank this year's points now. Then you wont forget to do it. When you make the 2010 ressie, they will use your banked and current points first and borrow for anything you need beyond that.

With a December use year, an April 2010 stay would be in your 2009 use year (12/1/09 to 11/30/10). You can use banked 2008, current 2009, borrowed 2010. If you have 2008 points left, you have to bank them by 7/31/09.

Thanks. I read my DVC Planner like 8 million times and connecting all of the answers wasn't makign sense to me. I went back and read, and now with this and your answer I've gotten my answers.

If you had to cancel and re-book a 1BR or studio, you would want to make sure MS used your banked (2008) and borrowed (2010) points for that reservation, since those points would be permanently stuck in your 2009 UY. You could then bank any 2009 points into 2010 for use then.

EDIT: I would also say that depending on what accommodations you actually need, you might consider getting two studios rather than a 2BR. You can save a ton of points that way.

Ohh thanks for the tips. And the two studio idea is quite nice. We love having the dining plan, but don't know if the in-laws would want to get it for themsleves. Since EVERYONE in a room has to have it, two studios would help on that requirement -- as well as save me from pulling my hair out being with the in-laws 24/7.........
