Possibly planning a December trip :santa:. If any DVC is available at that time (I see a waitlist in my future) I will need to borrow 50-60 points. If I book but then have to cancel for whatever reason before the 31 day window what happens to those borrowed points?? Do I lose them??

Also, what would happen to the 24 points if I bought 24 points and borrowed the rest if I had to cancel??

Thanks

I never borrow, but I *think* this is right...

Once points are borrowed they can't be returned to their orginal year. The borrowed points would assume the character of the UY you borrowed into.

No, but you have to use them in the Use Year you borrowed them into (and cannot bank them--though you can bank your current Use Year points ahead into the next year if you are still within your banking window). It really all depends on your use year.

Hope that all makes sense.

BTW, two years ago, I got 6 nights in a one bedroom at OKW, Dec. 20-26 in September--no waitlist.

Good luck:thumbsup2

I believe you can use them within the current UY, but that they cannot be banked.

I believe you can use them within the current UY, but that they cannot be banked.

So, since my use year is December, that really would not help me as I would have to use them by the end of December 2011. Is that correct??

If you were buying them to use in your 2010 allocation of points then they would expire on 11/30/11. Temp points purchased within your 2011 allocation would expire on 11/30/12. I believe that's correct.

Edited to add:
Q. What happens to the points if the vacation is cancelled? Are they subject to normal cancellation rules (expire at end of Use Year, Holding account rules, etc.)? Can they be banked? Can they be transferred to another owner?

A. One-time-use vacation points expire according to the use year of the reservation booked and are non-refundable, non-transferable, and cannot be banked or borrowed.

No, that is not correct. If you are going in December of 2011 and have a December Use Year, that means you get your December 2011 points on December 1st. So, if you are having to borrow points, you would be borrowing them from your December 2012 Use Year. Thus you are borrowing into your December 2011 Use Year. So, you would have until November 30, 2012 to use them. Remember, when you book the trip has nothing to do with where the points come from. It is when you take the trip that matters.

On the other hand, if you were confused, it is possible that you actually need to bank your current points into your December 2011 Use Year so that they are available after November 30, 2011 and thus would use those, and your current use year (December 2011 at the time of the trip). If that is the case, and you had to cancel more than 31 days out, they would all be available till November 30, 2012, because they would now all be December 2011 use year point (and you would not be able to bank the borrowed points, but could the others).

If you have a December Use Year, and are traveling in December, you have the maximum protection/flexibility.

Again, hope all of this makes sense.

Does that mean that the one-time-use points stay in your account until the end of your UY? As in you could potentially use them for another reservation (assuming it's in the same UY as the cancelled one.)

Yes. That is how I understand it to be.

"One-time-use vacation points expire according to the use year of the reservation..."

Yes, I was confused but this made all the sense in the world. So I called MS banked my remaining 2010 points and used my 2011 points for my December trip. I did not have to borrow and it all fell into place and best of all, I will still have just enough left over for my May 2012 trip and almost just enough for my December 2012 (so I see some borrowing at some point in my future) ........

So my May and December WDW tradition can continue:banana:

Thank you

Mimmie:)

Glad to hear it, all the way around. :cool1:

Are next trip is only six days away, to be followed by another 85 days away:cloud9:
