If I book using AP discount...

I have two major "situations" or questions I'm hoping someone can clarify for me....

1. If I am booked under one promotion, then an AP room discount comes out that will save us more money, can I call in and have my reservation modified? If so, will money already paid towards booking be applied to new booking, or will I have to be refunded & book a new reservation?

2. We are staying room only one night at ASSp before moving over to an EPCOT resort for Princess Half. This one night is already booked and paid for, so I'm not worried about it. If I end up re-booking EPCOT reservation under AP promotion, but don't have AP yet, I know I have to upgrade my park ticket to AP prior to check-in. Can we drop bags off at EPCOT resort or send them over from ASSp, go to park, upgrade at Guest Services, head into park, then head back to EPCOT resort later that evening? Will we need to head to front desk to "check in" or will resort be able to see AP in system?

Thanks Disers for any help sorting this out!!!

I can't speak for question 2, as I don't have any experience with that, but question 1 has come up for me recently.
We had a room booked at the Poly and an AP discount came out later and it ended up being cheaper to stay at GF with the discount, which we've never done, so we decided to do it! We booked the GF room online first to secure it (juuuuuust in case it was the last room available for the promotion! Hey, you never know!) then we cancelled the Poly room, also online. Disney refunded the Poly room back to the card and also charged the card for the new room. Since these are "room only" AP deals (the Poly was rack rate, but it was room only) the deposit is first nights stay, not $200. But it was super easy to do online. Book one, dump the other. You can have more than one room reserved on the same night for the same persons, so there was no issues with booking the new AP rate room and then canceling the Poly room later.

If an AP discount comes out the resort and exact room category will have to be included and still available for your reservation to be modified. Other wise, as PP stated you could book a new included reservation and you would have to cancel your first one.
I have read here that you do not need the AP before you check in. The system will recognize it as soon as you enter it in your MDE account. You could move your bags before getting the AP

Once you upgrade to the AP it will show in the system. You can have your bags transferred from ASSp to the Epcot resort no problem, as long as you have a reservation it doesn't matter, they will transfer the bags. You don't have to stop and check in, just do on line check in. I usually call and check out when doing a split stay but did one last week with one night at Pop and the rest of the trip at the Dolphin. When I went to the front desk to check out (there was no button on the phone to call) I was told I didn't need to check out, it was automatic. I've had problems in the past with checking into resort #2 because I tend to leave resort #1 around 7:30 and go on over to resort #2 and let them know I'm there, if I don't check out of resort #1 first. I had no problems and my room was actually ready at Dolphin at 8:30 in when I got there. I don't have them transfer my bags because I drive and do it myself but I do normally leave them with bell services.

But not everyone gets the room ready text or email, so there are still many people who donhabe to checkin at the front desk.

Can still have bags transferred though.

If you do on line check in, you will still get the room ready text when your room is ready. I always go to the front desk and check in at resort #2 even when I do on line check in. It's just personal preference for me since I like them to know I'm there just in case a room comes ready earlier. I also never give any room preferences except early check in and always tell them when I go to the front desk I really don't care where the room is, because I don't. My trip week before last was the first time I've ever had a room ready text before I actually arrived and was able to go directly to my room, that was resort #1 and I got the text when I got on the Turnpike. My room at Dolphin was ready the next morning when I transferred over, SPG does now have on line check in in some cases and I had done that but went to the front desk when I got there just because I was there and I wanted to store my bags with bell services. My room happened to be ready but that is the very first time staying at Swan/Dolphin that my room has been ready before the 5 o'clock check in time they have. I've never received a text from them, even when I've gone to the front desk at 5 and the room was ready and didn't receive one when it was ready this trip. My point was, if you do on line check in, you don't have to go to the front desk unless you want to, first thing in the morning. You can have your bags transferred and go directly to a park, when your room is ready you will get a text. If you are ready to leave the park and haven't gotten the text, you can go to the front desk at that time to check.
