and they come out with FD or Stay/Play/Dine, can I add the free dining later or change the package to S/P/D?

Is it is simple as adding the dining plan or would a cancel, refund and rebook be in order by the Disney castmembers?

If you book RO and want to change to a package later, the RO would have to be cancelled/refunded and a package booked, requiring a new $200 deposit (or payment in full if you are 45 days or less from arrival). Since RO and packages are different reservation systems, money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other, therefore, requiring cancelling/rebooking. If you already have a package booked (room + tickets), the DDP can easily be added and FD applied (pending availability). For FD, there has to be availability under that promo in order to get FD as having a reservation already in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied. HTH .

So, as long as I book my room plus my 7 day tickets at one time I should be able to add a dining plan or the S/P/D promo without issue?

Yes, as long as you have a package booked and are applying a discount that also requires a package, there is no cancelling/rebooking involved. Keep in mind, though, that having a reservation in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied, so sometimes you have to be flexible with your resort/room type in order to take advantage of a discount.

You can cancel up to 45 days from your reservation with no penalty and refund of your $200 deposit.

So there really is no risk in booking ahead of time and changing your reservation or upgrading your reservation with a deal.

Deals normally come out more than 45 days in advance so you should see the deal before your 45 day window is up.
