if i add-on now, will i get 2008 points

thanks, Sandi.
i agree with your answer to me, although, i don't think it's fair of Disney employees to misguide us. we are after all, spending alot of money.while i think it's not the end of the world, i just expect better from these folks.
i bet alot of us are in the wrong UY. my fault, too, for not doing my homework before i signed up. another lesson learned, but i still am so happy i did join, didn't know what we were missing all these years, and my grandson is loving every minute of it!!! Hope to meet you some time when we're there,:cool1:

I wholeheartdly agree! They really should have something that explains the pros and cons of the UY and how it affects vacations, instead of only having to rely on what the guides say (the are salesman, right?!!)

Even when I was originally looking and an Oct UY came up, my guide mentioned it was not really a big deal since I could just borrow for my Aug vacation. The problem, which he didn't really mention, was that if I had to cancel that trip, I would have only Sept left to use them. Since I am a teacher, that would never work.

We just added on at AKV and our guide told me that October and December UY would still get 2008 points (we are October so we got them.) I don't know why August wasn't included but he made a point of saying only October and December.

That's consistent with what my guide told me. When we added on in early May, he said that there were only 200 August UY AKV points remaining that would include 2008 points. We took 50 of them, and I suppose the other 150 were sold in the last 6-7 weeks.

:confused3maybe, if we complain to Quality Assurance and if enough of us do it since we are the paying customers and this will affect us for many years to come, possibly they will give us the option of the UY that is best for our traveling needs. if it isn't available, then tell us as well and let us decide what will be a good alternative. if the alternative is to go on a wait list, it might be ok with us, too. but, to deliberately leave this important info out of the sales session, seems unfair. i, for one, didn't understand the whole concept of UY, and i would think our Guide knew it just by our total ignorance on the DVC membership. yes, i could sell and start all over again, but why should i have to go thru all that, but i will stay on this board, because this where i'm learning all i need to know about DVC, thanks so much for your knowledge.

You can try but I wouldn't count on their changing your Use Year - have never heard of it done. You can buy add-on contracts via the resale market with a UY that you think is better for you and then sell August UY contract but I do understand that is not something that you'd really want to have to contend with doing.

Most members do not run into any issues with their Use Year even if they didn't get to decide on a UY and they've got a UY that is not ' ideal ' for their typical travel times, they find it presents no real problems for them at all -- and also, keep in mind, that often members may start off with a UY that works well with their present travel habits but then years down the road travel habits often do change and that UY may not be as favorable to them....really the main concerns folks seem to have with UY is ability to bank their current UY points that were used in their reservation in the event they have to cancel close to their travel date BUT also keep in mind that if you cancelled with less than 31 days to your trip date you would not be able to bank those points anyway.

Best wishes to you and hope it won't impact your enjoyment of your DVC; you'll still have wonderful, memorable trips :goodvibes

With a Dec UY, in April 2010, you would have 300 points to use (2008 banked and 2009 AKV points & 100 BLT points). With a Feb UY, in April 2010, you will have 400 points (200 2009 banked AKV & BLT points and 2010 AKV and BLT points).

I think going with the Feb UY gives you more of the points upfront so I think you are fine.

But, which UY works better for your travel or does it not matter? That would be more important, IMO, then the points. I travel in the summer so I got a June UY--it gives me the points right before I travel and allows a lot of flexibility if I want to change (or have to cancel ) a reservation.

Good luck!

I am really confused again ( i know not unusual!!:lmao:) - I opted for a Dec UY to get the 2008 points for AKV and then the 200 2009 points in Dec 09.

Why if you have a feb UY do you get more points - do you just not get BLT in 2010 rather than 2009??

I am not travelling until Dec 2010 and I understood that I was better off as I would have Dec 2009 points and Dec 2010 points to use - but this sound like I would have got more points if I had a Feb UY??

Or am I missing the point yet again!!:rotfl:

At get go, February UY will give you 100 LESS AKV points then December UY would - - but keep in mind these 100 AKV points would be from Dec 2008 UY and even if you banked them to 2009 UY they wouldn't be valid for your
December 2010 travel dates but maybe you can rent them or transfer to another member or offer them to someone to use if you can't.

BLT points are allocated as of 2009 Use Year. If you have February UY you would have 2009 UY points for BLT now + 2009 UY points for AKV now.
Banking these points into 2010 UY would have them available for reservations occurring between 2/1/2010 - 1/31/2011 AND on 2/1/2010 you would also receive 2010 UY allotment of points for BLT and AKV and
Feb 2011 UY allotment of points is available to borrow into 2010 UY.

If you have December UY you would have December 2008 UY allocation of points for AKV right now & banking these AKV points into 2009 UY would have them available for reservations between 12/1/2009 - 11/30/2010 so banked Dec 2008 UY points for AKV would not be usable for your trip in Dec 2010 because last date available to use is 11/30/2010.

In December 2009 you will receive 2009 UY allocation of AKV + BLT points.
You can bank these points into 2010 UY which would make them available for reservations occurring between 12/1/2010 - 11/30/2011 AND on 12/1/2010 you would also receive 2010 UY allotment of points for BLT and AKV and
Dec 2011 UY allotment of points is available to borrow into 2010 UY.

Hope this helped
:goodvibes

thank you Laura for the great explanation - that has helped a lot!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I think I just need to double check that my mum definitely wants my AKV 2008 points (as I have told her I would give them to her), as if she doesn't want them, then I am going to be better off with a different UY I think.:)

Can I opt for a June UY and still get the 2009 points (much the same as the Feb one??):confused3:thumbsup2

Yes, you should have no problem getting a June UY. But didn't you say that you want to travel typically during Octobers and May? If you travel in May, you don't want June, but maybe April.

Even in your case, if you are getting the 08 points, and have someone to use them, then I think it comes out in the end. But, you are right, if you have no use for the 08 points (since they can not be used for Dec 2010 trip), then definitely consider a different UY.

Yes you are right again Sandi:) (you've got a good memory!!:goodvibes) I will normally be travelling in May and October.:thumbsup2

I have had a look and I think because I want to give my mum the 2008 points, I guess sticking with the Dec UY will be ok - as you say it looks like it all works out the same in the end!!:thumbsup2

thanks again!!:lovestruc
