i'm sorry for the second question, i should have asked this in the above post. we are trying to plan next year, i was thinking of going 4th of July week, is that crazy or no worse than any other time in the summer? and, if we wind up there that week, is there anything special going on that day or days ahead? thanks, again.....

I believe that if you add on before Aug 1st, you should end up with 2008 points (but it might depend on if they still have them).
I have been every week in July and the first two in August. 4th of July week was definitely more crowded than the others but we knew that ahead of time and just adjusted the way we did the parks and our stay.
In the past, they have done fireworks on the 3rd and the 4th. MK gets really crowded so if you want to be there, go early. One year, we were on our way back to FW when the fireworks went off. We got to watch them from the boat and it was beautiful==not to mention nice not being in crowds of people!
Good luck!
Sandi and Karen, thank you for the quick replies. i'm excited about adding, trying to work it into the budget, i didn't think i would want to add on this quick, we just bought last june. but, like all of you, i think it's some sort of infectious illness that's going around....
did you both decide to add on, or are still in the debate stage?
i may have to reconsider that 4th of July idea. we can go anytime in June as well, and it's less points. why did you decide to add on to your homes resort rather than go with an additional home? i'm wondering which is the better purchase.![]()
We just added on at AKV and our guide told me that October and December UY would still get 2008 points (we are October so we got them.) I don't know why August wasn't included but he made a point of saying only October and December.
I need help wrapping my mind around something. We just became DVC members yesterday (woo hoo!) with a 200 point split contract, BLT/AKV. We are not planning on using the points until at least April 2010. I was originally going to get a December UY, which would give me 100 2008 AKV points now. Then in December I would get 100 more, plus the 100 BLT points. My guide pointed out that if I took the February UY I would already have 200 points (100 2009 points at each) and then in Feb 2010 (only 2 months later than original plan) I would get 200 more. So I took the Feb UY. But I still keep thinking that I'm screwing up by passing up the 08 points. What would you guys do? I can still change it (I think) since we haven't signed anything yet. Thanks in advance for any help!
Do you know if the same special applies for SSR? If I add on points at SSR would I get 2008 as well????
With a Dec UY, in April 2010, you would have 300 points to use (2008 banked and 2009 AKV points & 100 BLT points). With a Feb UY, in April 2010, you will have 400 points (200 2009 banked AKV & BLT points and 2010 AKV and BLT points).
I think going with the Feb UY gives you more of the points upfront so I think you are fine.
But, which UY works better for your travel or does it not matter? That would be more important, IMO, then the points. I travel in the summer so I got a June UY--it gives me the points right before I travel and allows a lot of flexibility if I want to change (or have to cancel ) a reservation.
Good luck!
Just joined at BLT 160pt Aug use year..My husband and I will primarily be traveling non-summer (F&W and New Years ect..). First trip this Oct.
One exception is next June. We're planning to take my SIL, 3 kids and MIL - will need a two bdrm somewhere for 5-7 nights..so was thinking of doing a 100pt add-on to cover what we won't have. If I add-on at BLT before the end of 2009 I get 09 points and then could borrow from 2010 if needed right? But if I added on another resort before Aug - my use year - then would I also get 2008? Read above that Kidani would be an exception..(no 2008 pts) is that correct?
Thanks to anyone that can clarity to this![]()
Can someone explain why my Guide gave me an Aug.UY, when i bought Kidani in June 08' on our vacation at WDW, and didn't offer me a better UY since he knew our vacations would more often than not be in the summer months, like june or july. he said since we would be vacationing in the summer, Aug. UY would be best. i didn't have a clue what he was talking about and went along since i felt he knew what he was doing. i only am understanding the cancellation/ UY process now since you all have explained it here on the board. very disappointed, with this, since i will add on, but, without a really good reason from him, i don't feel i can trust his word, and will ask for a new Guide. it seems it was more beneficial to Disney in some way, and not to us. i'll call him on Monday, and see if there is something right with this and i'm jumping to conclusions....![]()
