Headin' to the beach w/ Moondoggie & Gidget..Has anybody done this tour? Huntington? Newport? Laguna? etc.

I stumbled across this in the SoCal thread & thought i'd post here. A beach day trip in a woody:

http://www.anaheim411.com/oc_beach_tours.html

In theory, this sounds like a fantastic option for about 1 out of 10 people who post here. Does anybody have an experience or opinion to share on this day trip option?

(The only downside i see, is that it doesn't look like you can "hang" at the beach for a couple of hours if you wanted to.)

:)

Hound, this looks awesome!

Down at the bottom it says "Daily Service from Anaheim Area Hotels with On and Off Privileges so you can Visit the Coast at your pace "

Not sure if that means they have multiple trips in a day-- so maybe you could take the morning one, hang at the beach of your choice and pick up the tour again on the afternoon one?

I thought this tour looked pretty cool too, Avalon. (listening to Beach Boys & Jan & Dean while stylin' in a Woody.)

That would be great if they run 2 or more Woodys a day so one could spend a couple of hours at one of the beaches.

Hopefully someone who knows about this tour will post. :thumbsup2

I checked the site when you put it up yesterday. I love the idea and it sounds like you could have them leave you and catch up to them later in the day. On paper it's really cool, but I've never done it so I can't comment on that.

This appears to be the company that owns the Woodys (& other transportation vehicles):

http://www.occruiser.com/home.html

The website suggests that they have 4 of these Woody buses. It looks like they seat 24 people.

& in the advertisement it encourages folks to "catch a wave" while they're visiting the beach.

With the expense & hassle of renting a car for a beach day, this really sounds neat. Hopefully the company is a good one & provides good service.

This is what is called a "hop on / hop off" tour. What that means is:

They have their set route with pick up / drop off locations. You can get on and ride ful circle with them, get the tour, local info, etc.... They stop along the way at the location listed. They don't tour you around at those locations, they just stop there.

So.... you can hop off at any stop you want, for example, The Balboa Fun Zone, spend as much time there as you want. Enjoy the beach, have lunch, play in the Fun Zone - whatever interests you. Then, when you are ready to continue, you go to the stop where you were dropped off, wait for the next tour bus from your company to come along, show your ticket, and hop back on until the next place you want to hop off.

The key of course is knowing when the last bus is. Depending on what you want to see / do, sometimes it's best to hop on, ride full circle just to see everything, and then decide where you want to hop off, spend the day there, and hop back on for the last bus "home."

Hope this helps,
Dreams

That sounds fun Dreams! Thanks for the info. I wish it wasn't so cold and wet in Jan. DBF would love to do this type of tour!

Interesting.
Wish I could vacation in SoCal every year.
:(

Wow, that looks like fun! I live right by the beach, but our beaches are bleh compared to OC beaches. I would love to do this! DBF would love the Woody Bus part!

We live about 40 min. from the beach. My husband grew up less than a mile from the coastline. The difference is, up here the beaches are COLD. Even in the summer, you bring a sweatshirt because it most likely is cold and gray.

I never even thought about visiting a beach while down there at DLR. I remember right after the earthquake at DLR in June, I overheard a family say they were leaving Disneyland to go to the beach for the rest of the day.
