If Disney moves your room

If Disney moves your room do they, under non pandemic circumstances, offer an equivalent accommodation in a different hotel?
If the rumors of only FW and DVC being open hold true in mid August will our current WC accessible room with a tub and hearing features be moved to another WC room?
I mostly don’t want to have our reservation outright canceled and with enough notice can probably rent equipment from a vendor to put in a standard room to get us by. I am just curious.

So far, I don't think they've moved anyone without the guest being allowed to accept the move. There haven't been choices but you would certainly know to where they are moving you or opting to cancel. That said, at this point we really don't know what will happen with reservations once the parks open. If they have more rooms booked than open resorts can accommodate, some would have to cancel. But I think they've been keeping a close eye on numbers and probably expect to have enough rooms.

We have been moved twice in all of our trips to WDW; both times, we were at the Resort hotel when an issue arose that necessitated the move.

In both instances, we were moved to identical accommodations - although at different Resorts than we had started at. Given that there are not many Handicap Accessible Roll-in Shower rooms with 2 beds at WDW, I was impressed both times with how quickly they were able to re-room us.

I would reach out to Disability Services Disability at (407) 560-2547 or email disability.services@disneyparks.com and ask them if you are concerned.

This is my first post, but I have been lurking for awhile.
This thread is sort of what I'm wondering about and I'm hoping some of you can give me some guidance.

My husband and I have a king bed, wheelchair accessible, roll in shower room booked at Music. I got an email that they would not be open and I could call to confirm my reservation and would be moved to another resort, modify, or cancel.

I called earlier today and I was told I would be moved to Pop and then I was told there were no king rooms with a roll in shower, so the CM checked AoA. Nothing was available there with a king and roll in shower. She told me I could call back to see if there were any cancellations, but if not there was nothing they could do. I asked if we could check another resort and she told me she did and CBR and CSR (which won't even be open during my dates) didn't have any availability.

So I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else? Should I call back and check with another CM or just keep calling periodically to see if anything opens up? Any advice?

Both. Room availability changes constantly. Forget about requesting (because that's all it is) a king bed. That's not a bookable category, even for an accessible room. I don't know how to find the Pop refurbishment thread, but if the specific accessible rooms didn't change, there should be about 153 of them, with slightly more than half having king beds.

King bed is a choice when you go to book, so I thought it was a category and not just a request?? I can see king accessible with tub (handrails) listed and the CM confirmed this was available, but not a roll in shower.
We've never had this issue before (and I know it's a whole new ball game now), but we always book a king room, accessible with roll in shower and when I've called, I've been told it was a guaranteed booking.
I guess I have a lot to learn!

Well...usually an HA booking is as close to “guaranteed” as possible. But the resort is closed and there is no guarantee for the same at another resort. Are you able (or willing) to do a slightly different room-type? Maybe 2 queens with roll-in shower? Or a wheelchair accessible with tub (which should have a transfer bench and handheld shower head)? I would check frequently and ask for any alternatives you are willing to accept; politely ask to be transferred to Guest Services. I also suggest contacting Disability Services. Unfortunately, folks have been rebooking from ASMusic for about 2 weeks now. When is your trip? I’m sure there will be cancellations, but less likely if your trip is coming up soon.

and:welcome: to DISboards!

Thank You!

Our trip is over Labor Day weekend, so I still have about 8 weeks. A tub is more difficult, so I'd be more willing to switch the bed configuration than the shower/tub, but I wasn't given that option. I was just told there were no king beds with roll in showers at AoA or Pop, but there was one with a tub with rails. She said I could keep checking or cancel. That's when I asked about checking other resorts and she said neither CBR or Coronado had availability. CBR is open for my dates, but CSR isn't, so I don't know if she actually checked or not. I just told her I'd wait and hung up.

I think maybe I'll call back and use the Disability line and see what they say.
Thanks again!

There are relatively few king beds in any resort. There aren't a lot of roll-in showers, either, but if you are willing to change bed type it may open more options. At POP you can leave the 2nd bed closed for more space. Good luck!

Nobody is saying Disney is unable or refusing to find the OP an accessible room. Again, despite OP's misunderstanding king bed is not a bootable category at a Value resort. It's a request. Disney is not in noncompliance if they don't have any available accessible rooms with a roll-in shower and a king size bed - either available or at all.

OP needs the accessible room with the roll in shower (and, I'm guessing, an actual roll-in shower vs a room with just a shower). OP wants a king size bed.

I no longer can find any king bed option for ASM.

I believe the king bed IS a bookable category when booking an accessible room. It is clearly stated as “1 king bed” in the description of the room, as opposed to the typical “2 double beds or 1 king bed.”

Regarding CBR or OKW - I believe all “wheelchair accessible” rooms are 1st floor (or in an OKW building with an elevator). Other types of accessible rooms may be 2nd or 3rd floor with no elevators. As long as OP requires a wheelchair accessible room, any resort will have that. If OP can use a “Florida Special accessible room” they need to be aware of the no elevator situation. But I’m not sure that room-type meets OPs needs.

The problem is that the specific resort booked is closed. WDW could legally have simply canceled all reservations at the closed resorts, however they are making efforts to relocate folks to comparable or better accommodations. The challenge, as we all know well, is the limited number of accessible rooms at any given resort. So if the OP has any flexibility with room-type, that will certainly help. And escalating the issue with Guest Services (as opposed to frontline phone CMs) and Disability Services.

Unfortunately for the OP, WDW has been accepting calls to shift guests from closed resorts for 2+ weeks now, plus 2020 reservations have now opened to the public. So what may have been an option on 6/22 is no longer available.

Like I said, I booked it as a king bed, and I have done this before in the past, so I always thought it was a booking category since that's how it's stated when you book.
In any event, I did call back and I first attempted the disability line/number listed above. I got a great CM, but she said they only handle the parks and not resorts. She suggested I call the general number again.
I called and got a great CM who was really nice. She told me there weren't any king beds with roll in showers available at Pop, but they did have availability with a king bed and roll in shower at AoA. I was told nothing was available earlier when I called, so I guess someone must have cancelled.
So, it's all taken care of now and I appreciate the help from all of you!!
