If budget weren't a concern

Here's what I would like to add to my son's list of Christmas gifts:

2-sided star wars sword
mini trampoline
spy gear

Unfortunately, I've already bought as much as my budget will allow. I don't know why, but this bums me out. I know he'll be delighted with the gifts he does get, but it's me who wants to give him more. Is this a common affliction? I assume it is, and that is why people go into debt.

I always feel this way- you want to give and give and give. But just remember- there are always other holidays/occasions that it's appropriate to give a gift (birthdays, Easter, a job well done on something...). Don't feel like you have to give so much all at once. Show the holiday spirit in other ways that don't cost $$$$$. Like... a family trip to see the lights around the neighborhood, a family trip to a goodwill or a toys for tots center to drop off old toys that will bless other families, or a family game night.

we would love a PS3 with loads of games, but there is no way we can do that right now. We do have a Wii and they have DSs.

For me if the budget allowed I would want to buy more toys for charities and buy more food for charity food drives.

My son came to me last week, after I'd already done ALL of the shopping for him, with a gift request I have a very hard time not fulfilling - a guitar and amp, so he can go back to taking lessons. I play several instruments myself, and I'm just a sucker for the kids wanting to learn any instrument. But it just isn't in the budget given what I've already spent on other things he wants.

Fortunately, I get a "do-over" - he has a January birthday, so instead of the concert tickets I was planning to get him he's getting the entry-level Gibson guitar that Best Buy has in their Cyber Monday ad.

We've finished shopping for our kids. I am now going to edit what we got. I think not getting them everything gives them something to look forward to and presents you with ideas for their birthdays. Don't fret, enjoy that you are sticking to your budget. I'm sure they'll love what you gave them.

But, yea, I know how you feel, there's just alot out there it seems this time of year. Can't have it all, but you can give lots of love which is what they really want, right?

I think your feelings are normal. Just today, I saw a basketball hoop that you can attach to your wall. I thought Gee! My daughter and her cousins would have so much fun with that if Santa gave that to her. We could hang it up in the basement and...and...and....and... But we've already hit our budget and I walked away from it. For me, I spend so much time during the year telling our daughter to "save your money", "it's not on our shopping list", or "it's too much money". But at Christmas we can buy those fun things she couldn't get at other times. And while she won't get everything, she'll get some which, at the end of the day, is better than nothing.

So, don't worry, you're not alone. Either way, I bet there will be a bunch of happy kids on Christmas morning with or without that oh-so-fun basketball hoop.

If budget weren't a concern we would be going to WDW for Christmas. I would take my parents and my BFF & her daughter. We would stay at AKL. But budget/money is a concern so ....

but are you talking about the really small 3' ones?

If so, just wait 'till spring. I got ours for $5 at a garage sale, and I picked up 2 others for friends at the same price.
