If a room opens up from waitlist do you pay current price?

We are in adjoining 9's, but waitlisted for 7's on the westbound reposition. I booked the first day the cruise opened for a pretty good rate. If the 7's open up, would I get the rate they were the day I booked or the rate they would be today? I ask because I noticed the 8's and 9's are 2,000 more now than when I booked, so if the 7s would be that much more + the upgrade cost I'm not going to take them even if they do come available.

Really? I thought there were tiers. Once you lock into a tier, you stay in that rate tier and can move from category to category.

I know if you add additional people to your reservation, you will pay current rates. And, if you move to a different date, you pay that rate. But, I thought if you just move categories, you pay the tier rate at the time you booked.

Nope. I once tried to move from a category 6 to a category 4 and at the time of booking I believe the price difference was around $1,000. I tried to move myself about 6 months before sailing and DCL wanted over $2,000 for me to make the move. They treat it as a cancellation and re-booking, there is no adjustment to just move categories.

Would it matter that in my case we were waitlisted for the higher category at the time we made the ressie? Its not that I changed my mind at a later date, its that the higher category was sold out (probably to someone on this board! :earseek: ) at the time I made the reservation.

It is my understanding that the fact you were on the waitlist wouldn't matter. If you want the upgrade you'll have to pay current pricing.

I think it used to be this way, but a lot of policies were changed last summer, and I think this was one of the MAJOR changes.
