IF a Room Only Discount and Stay Play Dine are released...

If I am understanding what I am reading, there are talks about the possibility of a SPD discount being released "soon" for the start of 2014 and also I have heard maybe a room discount too? I know you cannot have both discounts (IF they are even offered at all!!) but am wondering if someone can tell me how I know WHICH one of the two is better in this scenario:

Deluxe Room (Beach club) with 4 people (3 of which are considered disney adults and 1 child). (We have never purchased dining plan before but are not opposed to using it....also we might be tempted to try a CL room if those were included in a room discount)

Any "rules of thumb" people use to automatically know WHICH deal works out best?

It will depend on how much the theoretical room only discount turns out to be. It looks like child's tickets cost $6 per day less. So you would save $6 per ticket day per adult with S/P/D in addition to approximately $38 per adult per night on the dining plan. So $44x3 (number of Disney adults you have) comes out to a savings of $132 a night to compare to whatever the room only discount is. Does my math sound right?

I'm No expert.. but when I calculated the possibility of S/P/D vs RO.. the discount was MUCH better with RO discount.

We are staying at Boardwalk 3/27-4/5

2 Adults, 2 Kids

Rack rate no discount $5294.25

Assuming 30% RO discount: Room rate drops to $3705 Savings: $1589

S/P/D- Only saves us $20 total per adult on tickets

and a total of about $800 if you include DDP discount.

Your situation may be different for 3 adults but not by much... essentially you get NO discount for the child in your group.

It usually is with deluxe.

Moderates and values get a smaller discount though, making the better discount a case by case kinda deal.

Since I didn't buy my park tickets from Disney, S/P/D would not work out well for us.

I am crossing my fingers that POR is included in the RO discounts for January (it wasn't in December). I can't decide if I'll switch resorts to get the discount if necessary, or just suck it up and pay rack rate.

My math is this:
If what we'll eat definitely costs more than the room discount, then I'd go with SPD (or FD). Otherwise, room discount.

Character meals are expensive (when you have 10 year olds, $30 to $40 a person (not including tip)!), so for now we do better with SPD or FD. Once we are done with characters meals, the room discount at a deluxe hotel will win for us.

You might want to look at the menus at allears dot com - they have prices etc. If your family will do character/buffet meals, there's a post on disboards with the current pricing (search for current buffet prices 2013 and it should come up).

The S/P/D plan will save you $38.43 per day per adult for DDP and about $19 per adult for a 5 day pass. If you have three adults then you would save $115.29 per day for dining and approx another $5.00 per day for tickets. Lets round that up to $120 per day savings with S/P/D plan. If your room rate is $400 a day or more and the RO discount is 30%, then your RO discount will be $120 per day, about the same as the SPD plan. So with a room rate that is higher than $400 you will save more money with a RO discount.

I feel pretty certain that this is not allowed... Can I book 1 room with adults and kids who pay adult rates under stay play and dine and then book another theoretically connecting room with kid aged kids only under the room only discount. We have 6 so we'll be getting 2 moderate rooms and doing it this way would maximize savings but pretty sure they won't let you have a kids only room. Doing this would save us an extra $200....

They need to have an adult in each room, 18+.

As another posted, probably, with two caveats - 1) many times the discount percentage is "up to" a certain amount - meaning that some are lower (so beach club may be 35 percent, but poly only 31 percent, and cr only 29 percent, or something - just hypotheticals), and 2) even at 35 percent, that still only "beats" spd if there are 3 adults in room and room rate is over 400-while that is likely, certain resorts and categories during time of discount might not be (although unlikely) - but if only 2 adults, then 35 percent almost 100 percent to "beat" spd b/c no way are rack rate for any deluxe below 200 or even 250.

The 35% mentioned in another post just above will probably be for annual pass holders, as the general population rate is 30% for deluxe (some exceptions that are lower) and 35% for annual pass holders for deluxe.

I just got back from Disney World on Sunday and I had a flyer in my room stating that military rates from September 2013 through September 2014 are 40% off deluxe resorts.

You can upgrade to the DXDP. You don't pay child upgrade prices. You pay the DIFFERENCE between the adult DDP and the adult DXDP.

Basically, the upgrade cost is the same as if you had Free Dining - the only difference is that you're paying a small fee for the original DDP versus getting it free.

Can you do the math for me for my trip at WL and BC when the discounts are announced? Both my rooms are under $400, so I wonder if it's worth the RO discount. My son will be 10 and excited to be on the adult DDP. We would upgrade to Deluxe plan anyway so not sure RO discount would beat out S/P/D.

Maybe this was already asked, however in the picture of the flyer from last years Room Only discount, and the SPD...it says you can save up to $600 with SPD...would that be for a whole week? Or how does that work? (Assuming there will be limit of savings this year also)
