Maybe this was already asked, however in the picture of the flyer from last years Room Only discount, and the SPD...it says you can save up to $600 with SPD...would that be for a whole week? Or how does that work? (Assuming there will be limit of savings this year also)

All depends. Adults pay child's prices for tickets and dining plan and rack rate for the room. Think of it as a discounted package.

So the most we could ever save, best case scenario for our trip would be $600 with SPD? Or is it a savings of $600 per person? For some reason, this is completely confusing the heck out of me... lol For example, I've read other peoples equations for this, one of which was for three adults per night, worked out to be $120 savings per night...well after a week that should be a savings of $840, but they would cut it off and at most you would only save $600?

Disney throws up examples when they give quotes like that. I haven't done all the math possibilities, but different people staying in different places for different amour of nights will all have completely different savings.

I just returned from a trip and have another next August. After nearly 40 years of making trips I still get excited.

The S/P/D plan will save you $38.43 per day per adult for DDP and about $19 per adult for a 5 day pass. If you have three adults then you would save $115.29 per day for dining and approx another $5.00 per day for tickets. Lets round that up to $120 per day savings with S/P/D plan. If your room rate is $400 a day or more and the RO discount is 30%, then your RO discount will be $120 per day, about the same as the SPD plan. So with a room rate that is higher than $400 you will save more money with a RO discount.

Can you do the math for me for my trip at WL and BC when the discounts are announced? Both my rooms are under $400, so I wonder if it's worth the RO discount. My son will be 10 and excited to be on the adult DDP. We would upgrade to Deluxe plan anyway so not sure RO discount would beat out S/P/D.

It works out to be the same amount of savings for the S/P/D plan whether you choose the DDP or upgrade to Deluxe, since the upgrade isn't discounted. So this would be how it works out:

You would save approximately $120 per day if you use the S/P/D plan. Just keep that number in mind when looking at the room rates and the discounts offered for the WL and BC for your travel dates. If your rooms cost $390 or less per night and your discount is 30% off or less, then the S/P/D plan is better. If your room is $425 or more and the discount is 30% or more, the room discount is better. If the discount is 25%, the S/P/D plan is better.

So, in almost every scenario, with a room under $400 per night, the S/P/D plan will save more money than a room only discount. The only time you have to worry about whether or not the room discount is better is with a room that is more than $400 per night. Then you have to do the math.

I took the most expensive resort room at POR for seven nights of the first week of February and it came out to $1,900 cost. If you had a 30% room only discount then you would save $570 dollars. Room discounts to the general public usually aren't more than 30%.

With three adults in the room you would save approximately $120 per day if you choose the S/P/D plan instead of the room discount. That works out to a savings of $840 for seven nights. The rule of thumb is that if you have three or more adults staying at a moderate resort you usually save more money with the stay/play/dine plan than with a room discount.

Can a first timer beg for some help in navigating s/p/d vs. RO? So far we are booked in early Feb at POR (preferred room) for 2 adults, 3 children. My oldest will be just shy of 10, my middle will be 7, and my youngest will be not quite 4. We've been planning on doing meals OOP, but decided we'd reconsider if we could get SPD possibly. My oldest and 2nd would be happiest with an adult dining plan as they'd like more options. Frankly, my 3 yo would be happier that way too, but that may be pushing it. As a result, I need to run the #s for savings on 2 adults vs. 3 or 4 adults (since if at all possible we'd like the kids to be upgraded to adults for DDP).

Part of the draw for OOP for us has been that the kids could share adult entrees, etc. I don't want to irritate Disney by upgrading them to adults for the DDP, but they will not be happy existing on kid food for a week.

We are staying 7 nights, 8 days, but will only be at the parks for 6 or 7 days. We have 6 day passes right now, but I am considering going for 7 days so we can see the MSEP our first night (our two other MK days it is not running as of now).

I'm still confused I guess I need a range (what we'd save with just the two adults under s/p/d, and then what we'd save if we manage to get my almost 10 yo and my 7 yo listed as adults for the DDP). I think we may end up better with SPD as it seems like our room rate is kind of low?

I booked 5 nights at CR plus hoppers and DDP for 5 and the room discount is about equal to the dining plan, so it's the same as Free Dining as far as I'm concerned.

With SPD at a value, you get QSDP at children's prices...if you stay at moderate you get DDP...so does that mean if you book deluxe you can take Dxdp at children's prices?
