If a kid chickens out at the last minute on a ride....

So, my 6 year old has a lot of fears recently. He's also stubborn as a mule and can't be convinced of anything he doesn't want to do. If we get to the World and he decides last minute at boarding not to ride something, will a CM let you just stand and wait until the other parent and child are done riding and then you can get on with the non-afraid child once they return? Or will they give you a rider switch pass right there at boarding and tell you and the scared child to exit the line and come back later through the FP line with your rider switch pass?

There are a few questionable things I intend to try and get him to ride, but I also don't want to make a big deal if he decides not to ride. I am thinking he could have a change of heart for 7DMT, Test Track, POTC, & Star Tours, but I don't want the rest of the family to miss those (myself included).

Our last trip my DD chickened out of Mission Space. DH and DS rode but I was out of luck as I had to walk DD out of the ride area. I'm still bitter since I've never ridden MS. ;)

I think you'll find the cast members to be pretty accommodating for scared kiddos. They will probably give you a switch pass at boarding, I believe that is the policy. However, if it's not busy or depending on the ride type they might let you switcheroo right there (I wouldn't count on it, though).

It depends on the ride what they will actually do. My son chickened out right at the end of tower of terror. The CM led me to the chicken exit, and told me to wait right outside the door. Once my family got off the ride and could watch my son, the CM came back and got me and I went on the ride with my niece. No switch pass involved, and I was honestly shocked that the cm even remembered to come back and get me.

My DS-4 chickened out at TOT. They let us step to the side while DH and DS rode and ride it later with DS-7.

Usually our family just does rider-switch before we enter the ride- we weren't expecting DS-4 to chicken out since he had already been on TOT once before. Sometimes we swap magic bands if it's something we have a FP for. My lucky older son gets to ride everything twice!
