If 2042 resorts deed expires on January 31, 2042 how long do I have to use 2041 points?

If they are allowed to do it they can but if they aren’t it’s not going to happen.

things are not always fair and honestly this is one downside of owning a late UY. Upside was that when contracts was offered some earlier UY’s wasn’t offered or at least the contracts didn’t come with points until the year after.

You could argue that earlier owners missed one year worth of points if they wanted a yearly UY opposed to a late UY.

With that in mind, if December owners only had two months then it would more or less even out compared to early owners not having points available earlier on.
This happened to us when VGF went on sale because of when they decided to sell them we were not able to get current FEB UY points and had to wait til the following UY to have points.

Exactly my point. I think when VGF or the other resorts reach their expiration date no special consideration will be taken as the late UY have already gotten what belongs to them.

Same with RIV. Some UYs got 2019 points and some did not.

In the end, they will have lots to decide and it will also be based on what plans they have for those 2042 resorts!

While removing banking makes sense, removing borrowing the last year makes it very hard for people with a December or other late UY to use them.

I agree with this. I think with roughly 20% of DVC contracts having a December use year, there will be some way to stop December-January bookings from being complete madness (it's not like this will be a one-time problem in 2042 and how it is handled will affect DVC going forward since people buying at other properties will see what happened, and I would guess a good number of those with contracts expiring will be looking to buy back in, provided they aren't raging mad at DVC). I could see a suspension of banking for the last two years but allowing 100% borrowing. In my mind, DVC will want those points out of the system as quickly and efficiently as possible, so giving people the ability to take their vacations sooner rather than later is only a good thing for them.

I have a December UY (VGF), so I will definitely be interested to see how the 2042 expiration plays out.

I think it was only February at RIV, because from what I understand, DVC did not file paperwork or where actively selling resort before February, so it must be in the law that they cannot assign current points for a use year that was not being actively sold.

Also I think the reason why the OKW extension was a failure was mostly due to when they offered it. When the extension was offered, it was relatively early in the resort’s existence. The contracts were good for 50 years. If someone bought one in their early 20’s that puts them in their early 70’s in 2042. If they were in their 30’s that puts them in their 80’s. Add a 15 year extension that puts the same people in their mid 80’s or 90’s. Unless the owners plan on giving it to siblings the extension made no sense. Now that more and more of the contracts have been resold to most likely younger people, an extension makes more sense for these people. Will DVC have another extension offer before 2042. I believe for OKW they will try something or they will aggressively ROFR and sell it direct, since all direct is 2057. Just my opinion. Around 28% of the points are extended.

Thanks for clarifying. It will still come down to them deciding what they will do and I just think we will see something that will restrict those resorts in some way.

The problem is going to be how does DVC collect MF from everyone in Jan 2041, if they tell Dec UY owners that they can only use their points in Dec 2041 and Jan 2042. Why bother paying MF in that last year if you can't use your points?

Most likely, DVC hasn't even thought about how they are going to handle having resorts expire.
