Looking to rent a cabin on a swimmable lake (no superfund sights) with some activities nearby that would appeal to a 3 year old. We are near Chicago. We do not want to drive more than 6 hours. We would like to pay $700 or less for 6 nights, but have flexibility. Cabin would need at least one bedroom and kitchen facilities along with fancy things like electricity and drinkable water.

Anyone have any suggestions? We think We would like a take it easy week. PS Husband does not camp, but a fixed structure (trailer or cabin) in a campground may work

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Millions of them in upper Wisconsin...we love the area around Webster/Siren/Danbury, also over by Spooner or even Hayward.

It is a beautiful area!

My family found our cabin on homeaway.com Hayward in Wisconsin and St. Joseph in Michigan.

There are tons of rentals in Wisconsin but I think that you're going to find it difficult to find one in your budget. Most are $150-$200 a night. We paid over $800 a week for a cabin in Eagle River 19 years ago. It wasn't anything fancy. 2 bed rooms, 1 bath with a shower (no tub so we gave the girls a bath in the cooler)

Many of the resorts fill up quickly because people book their reservations a year in advance.

Traffic on 94 through Indiana is horrible so we avoid Michigan.

If Wisconsin doesn't suit you, try going south to the Shawnee. If you haven't been down there, you'll be shocked you are still in IL. Orchards, vineyards, hiking, etc. and not the density of people or traffic you would see in Hayward in the summer.

We have a permanent site here: harbourvillageresort.net They have some rentals there and lots of stuff to do in Door County. We like it there! :)
