DW and I have been traveling to WDW for years with our kids, and have recently joined DVC. We offered to bring my brother and his family to WDW in the next 2-3 yrs, and are interested, but their DS(4) has Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), and are concerned that there might not be enough for him to do without suffering a broken bone.

Specifically I was wondering about which rides are expected to be too jolty or have height requirements associated?
I was wondering if anyone had any OI specific ideas/tips for the parks?
Any OI families have experience with this challenge?
Also would you tend to recommend WDW or DLR, or does it not matter?

Thanks for all of the input in advance...

Hey there , it would depend on how Easley he breaks bones , if you are in DL and go on RSR I would say he would be ok if he can with stand small pressure , but if he can't do any type of G force then he wouldn't be able to go on it , it speed is about 40 mph , with some thrust at certain points . None of the coasters. Ride in bugs land would be ok aside from the dodge cars . Critter corner would be ok . Fantasy land stay away from Toads wild ride, and Snow White . It's a small world would work . Same as Nemo , if he is in a wheelchair they have a wheelchair viewing area. If he is sti using a stroller as a wheelchair make sure they go to city hall and get a pass to use the stroller as his wheelchair . Any of the character meet and greats .
Tomorrow land stay away from most of them. Even astro blasters, it flips you around . He could go across to Tom Swayers Island ,do the boats on the river of America. The Canal boat. The Disneyland train. Dumbo with support . The carousels , there is a lot for him to do, talk with crush , Jedi training. If you tell them not to make contact with his saber . Aladdin show. Muppet show. It's tough being a bug, that's a fun show, but it's inter active, and could result in him jerking away from the spraying of water pretending to be snot . There is so much to do at Disneyland and California Adventure, that would accommodate his issues.. I have only been to WDW once 10 yrs ago but would think similar rides would be ok for him . Hope they have a great trip .

Thanks a lot for the reply, I know he loves Mater (so we considered DLR for Cars Land) but is even crazier about Dinosaurs, so we were leaning more towards heading to WDW to check out Dinoland USA. The only thing is he would only be able to dig for fossils and ride the TriceraTop Spin, as the Primeval Whirl, and Dinosaur rides are a little rough for him.

Welcome to the disABILITIES Forum! :welcome:

I might recommend the stroller-as-wheelchair to give your nephew some protection from the crowds. As PP mentions, you can get this tag at Guest Relations, and it will allow you to push the stroller through the queues. He will need to transfer to ride vehicles, but might be able to stay in it at shows (depends how low he sits in the stroller).

Click here for a link to the height calculator -- this will tell you all height restrictions at WDW.

The disABILITIES FAQ thread pinned near the top of this forum has a lot of information, including some ride-specific details that may be helpful. As a note, TriceraTop spin is basically a Dumbo ride with a dinosaur theme; I wouldn't consider that terribly rough, but you know your child's needs best.

In addition to rides, there are many shows that your nephew can enjoy. I think he could have a great time as long as you focus on what he CAN do vs what he can't.

Enjoy your vacation!
