Ideas/plans needed for late Oct Trip-plz.

I am taking my 10 year old son to Universal for four days late Oct (27-31). We are staying off site but there is a shuttle that will take us to the park. I think the evening haunted house thing will be too intense for the 10 year old (and WAY TOO MUCH for me.) He's very into HP, but even more into Dr. Who and Star Wars. He enjoys the rides, so I want to get the most time on the rides and the least time in the lines. When we went to Disney several years ago I used travel guide mike and had great luck. Can anyone give me suggestions of what to do early, what to avoid, what is a must do and where is the best place to be to see whatever it is we are to be seeing?

Four days will be plenty of time to do everything you want...even staying offsite. October is not the busy season so lines won't be that big of a deal but WWoHP will be busy. I wouldn't avoid anything...again...four days will give you plenty of time to do whatever you want.

I was there a year ago today (Oh the memories) so I thought I would tell you somethings I learned before and during my trip.
The hotel shuttle: Check the hotel's reviews, I have read that the shuttles have certain times they take you and pick you up. That could mean you wouldn't get to the park as early as the park recommends. We were in line at least 45 minutes before opening. Those staying on site will be in the park before the opening time.
WWHP: Because WWHP is smaller, it can get crowded before you know it. We always started our day riding Forbidden Journey (FJ) and then the other rides. They have a line for those who wish to just tour the castle, do that at least once. The line for the ride can move you along and you miss some really cool stuff. If you plan to go to Ollivanders for the wand show, save one day to start there. The lines grows very fast and the line is mostly in the sun. The Three Broomsticks was a great place for lunch. We went around 11:30 and got right in. Be sure to tour the whole place after you eat. Between Ollivanders and Hogwarts castle is a plaza area where the Triwizard Cup rally is held. The students from the Durmstrang Institute and the Beauxbatons Academy dance. Ask an attendent the times they dance. Also, the Frog Choir sings there as well.
You can buy postcards of the WWHP and have them postmarked right there. All the stores are great to tour.
It is recommended that you plan to be there in late afternoon, you will be there as it gets dark. There are things that can't be seen during the day, but you can at night. Check with an attendant to get the true facts.

No, sorry. I was just there a couple of weeks ago, and if there had been something like that, I wouldn't have missed it (or at least not the merchandise). My dad loves that show.

But if he's into Dr. Who, be sure to check out Men In Black (they give you a laser gun to shoot aliens), Terminator 2 (a combination live action show/3D movie about robots who come back from the future to destroy humans), Revenge of the Mummy (indoor, in the dark roller coaster where a mummy is chasing you), or maybe even ET (fly back to ET's home planet). ET might be a little cheesy for older kids, unless they are really into the movie, but the special effects are not much worse than on some episodes of Dr. Who. These are all at US.

On the IOA side, you might also check out the Spiderman ride (a ride/3D animation), Jurassic Park (T-Rex and raptors get loose), or Poseidon's Fury (a show/walking attraction featuring a battle between Poseidon and Darkenon).
