My husband and I are taking my 5yr old grandson to disney in October, however he has no idea. This will be his first trip to disney and his first plane ride. I wanted this to be special for him. Does anyone have any ideas on how to surprise him? :confused3

I am also surprising my two boys (8 & 6) with a trip to Disney.

If you want to clue him in BEFORE you leave, maybe buy a few Disney items (and a toy plane for the 1st gift!)& wrap, and let him have one each day. Or give him a few Disney things to open on the plane ride. You could get things like a pen, t-shirt etc, stuff he can use while he's there. You may also want to get a book about planes / going on a plane in case he has any fears. A Disney carry-on (I don't recommend the suitcase style ones - they are a devil to pull through an airport! We have more success with the sports style ones with wheels or backpacks) would be fun & could be packed with lots of stuff to keep him busy both on the plane & for quiet moments at the hotel.

My guys have been talking baout wanting to go to a 'hotel with a pool' so we have said that we could maybe go on one of daddy's business trips sometime. That's got the plane ride covered - I don't want them to know until we get to Orlando & they see the Disney buses!!

have a great trip!

I would just tell him that ".....because you are such a special grandson to us we want to do something very special with you on ____insert date___." Then I would tell him when we picked him up from his parents so they could see his reaction and videotape it! Or just drive to the airport....at some point he will ask what this "something special" is.....and won't he just be stunned  !!!!

I have been booked since January and we are going in 29 days and my kids have no idea, we're telling at the airport..... here's my plan....

We did this for my dd when she was that age, after 10 trips it is still one of her favorite memories. I did like a scavenger hunt with little clues she had to find and then figure out from the clues where we were going, I did this the morning we left. I hid things like a plastic airplane, sunglasses and finally a little plastic Mickey.

thanks so much for your ideas!!!! :yay:

he's going to be sooo excited....

It seems that each one of you waited until the day of your trip, I kind of like that idea. This way hopefully he gets a good night sleep. I already know I won't. I'm just too excited.

Go to the "Just for fun" part of these boards and click on the Creative DIS-ign
link. There are several threads about suprise trips and if you ask one of the designers will make you a personalized design that you then could iron on a shirt for him. Wrap it up and have him open it and when he asks what it is say " This is the shirt you are going to meet Mickey Mouse in" and watch his face light up.

I am taking my DS who is 2 also in October for his first trip but we didn't keep it a suprise. I started talking to him about it and showing him pictures of the actual characters costumes so hopefully he won't be afraid of them when we get there.

Good luck keeping it a secret and have fun !!!:goodvibes

We told DD7 that we were going to be going sometime, but weren't sure when. Then, at about 3:00 one morning we went into her room & turned on a CD with "Leaving on a Jet Plane, The Mickey Mouse Club March, and the Welcome Medeley." It was so fun!

On the other hand....Does your grandson live with you? If not, you may want to tell him in advance b/c he may be a little worried leaving mom & dad behind. (Sorry...I hope that doesn't sound too nosey, it was just a thought that I had!)

this is what I did for my 8 year great nephew after his parents gave me permission. I did up a little bag with travel items and wrapped each one and numbered them. Then had him unwrap until # 8. After #7 I had him read a note that I wrote telling him about the trip...boy was he excited!!! The last little item was a can marked "Peyton's Disney Fund" He went around asking people for money for the trip:) I might add, after he opened a few, I asked him if he had any idea as to what the items were for , and get this, he thought they were for him to use after phys.ed:) I had shower soap, deo. toothpaste, brush etc..I got a picture when he figured it out and it will go in his scrapbook:) Just a little fun for him
Enjoy this special time with your grandson. Blessings

We booked a last minute trip in June and kept it a surprise. Travel party was me,my girls (6&5), my son (3), by best friend and her son (1.5)

I told my kids we had to get up really early to take friend and son to airport. I loaded the car in advance so they saw nothing. I dressed them and loaded them into the car at 4 am, half asleep. We made it all the wayto the gate with the promise of donuts atthe other end. At the gate I gave them each a printed envelope (from Paperstore) that Invited each for a surprise trip to Disney signed by mickey. The photos of them opening those invites are priceless. The other travelers made a huge deal about how lucky they were to be personally invited by Mickey. They were in shock for 1/2 the flight and jumping with joy when they saw the Magical Express signs in Orlando.

Took a lot of hiding...but it was weorth it. When we called home they told daddy that they were having the best day of their lives!!!

Good Luck!:yay:
