Hi All!

I am a Wish Granter for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. One of my Wish Kids will be going on the Disney Cruise very soon. :goodvibes When the wish is a Disney World wish, usually send the kids off with a backpack full of goodies.

Is there anything I should consider getting for them that they would need or that would come in handy on the cruise? The Wish Child is 8 and her brother is 4.

Please send ideas!

Thank you!!!!!

Hi... I know that SHirley from the perfect gift works with this. I have heard that the things she prepares are amazing...her website is Theperfectgift.cc.

HTH :goodvibes

Actually - those gift baskets are a little pricey for what we are allotted for the kids. Also, I am looking for ideas of things to give them before they go too.

All ideas are welcome!

It would not be what is on the site actually. She is amazing, and a true gift from God. Please, try and call her you will not regret it... :)

Some thoughts... sand pail/shovels for port beaches, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat/cap, autograph book for characters, disposable cameras to take pictures, Pirate stuff for pirate night....

Tara - I work with MAW children so I do need you to call me asap at 800-950-4559
Thanks a lot
Always
shirley

I tried to call, but there is no answer. Please PM me with the best time to call.

Tara,

Please check your PM's

We were a wish family from The Wishing Star Foundation...and although our wish coordinator did do a whole lot for our little girl...we did what we could...before and on the cruise.

I made up "travel" goodie bags for each of our girls for the trip...(Girls 6&11). I ordered two "Disney" tote bags from Disney store online...clearance..Cheep :) Then got misclaneous items to fill it with...things like...sunglasses, coloring books, crayons, markers (all of course with a disney/princess theme..even the crayons and markers)...Lion King animal crakers...Bubbles...Gum, candy...goodie treats... We had a LONG flight...with some LONG layovers to get to Orlando...so I made the bags more for on the way there and on the way home...I thought there'd be plenty of things to do once we got there. ...Oh and for a special treat I also got them each a super soft princess blanket...(also from Disney online...clearance). I also picked up small disney related things like keychains...when I found them on a GOOD sale.

In a seperate bag...I packed each of them a special stuffed Mickey Mouse (also purchased from Disney online...clearance..Cheep) and some princess pjs...also online disney cheep...then set them out on their beds the frist night..They loved them.

Also from what I hear...If you contact DCL...they do have a wish coordinator on board that should work with you (being your from a wish foundation)...on doing special things for the family while they are on the ship. I don't know if our coordinator just didn't know to contact her or what...because we found out about the gal onboard who handles all the wish trips by accident.

Oh...just a thought..the waterproof cc boxes on a lanyard...would be a GREAT item to get them...and if you could...DCL has them with their logo on it..I don't think they were to much...but there perfect to hold the KTTW card in.

I'll let you know if I think of anything else we did or thought would have been nice.

Tara...

My son was also on a make-a-wish and when we cruised, there was a wish coordinator that works onboard and takes care of these children. They give the unlimited internet package free (89.95 value), they give the children a private meeting with the captain in the control room, they deliver chocolate covered strawberries, various fruits and cupcakes etc to the room everyday, they take pictures with each child and the capt with mickey by there side and give the children a whole bunch of pictures free, they give the wish child and family free float/snorkel gear on Castaway Cay, they gave him a bunch of arcade cards, and they also at the end, give the kids a stuffed mickey sailor. They make you feel extra special. So, do not fear if you dont come up with a whole lot for the child because they will be pleasantly surprised. When we went, Make-A-Wish also gave us 2 sets of luggage and a stretch limo to and from the airport. It was wonderful.

Contact Shirley, Tara. She is top notch!!!!!! You will see that for yourself!!!!

Many prayers for the Wish family from us.....

Tracy and Robert

WOW!!!! TooPure4U...I really wish our wish coordinator had communicted with DCL a little more...Not that the trip itself wasn't enough..But we didn't get ANYTHING extra. NOTHING at all. I had always heard of how they (the wish foundations) really make the kids feel special...but i just thought that maybe it was just diffrent going on the cruise and not to WDW...That's sooo great that they do do more on the cruises also. Ever since we got back from dd cruise...I have felt like she missed out on her one wish...because nothing "special" was done for her...not like the things I have heard from other wish familys. Our wish coordinator didn't even arrange transfers to and from the port...we did all of that on our own...even the hotel for the night before we left..(our flight came in late evening the night before the cruise set sail). I'm just glad we were able to do what we could for her to make it as special as we could.

I will contact Shirley, and I will make sure that the Wish Manager knows about the Wish person onboard to help with the extras.

As a Wish Granter, we try to send the family off with things they can use. We usually give the Wish Kid and any siblings a backpack full of things they can do on the plane or use on the trip (sunglasses, notepad w/crayons, autograph book, etc.) and some snacks. Having been to WDW too many times to count, I know what to give for a WDW wish. But, I have not been on a cruise yet, so I don't know what those little things are that I can put in a backpack.

Thank you again!

Ever since we got back from dd cruise...I have felt like she missed out on her one wish...because nothing "special" was done for her

Something special was done! She went on a Disney Cruise! My son was a recipient of a Make a Wish grant and I am fervent supporter of them now. My son 10 years ago chose a laptop which meant the wish was his alone. No family expenses etc. Those people were wonderful. They don't have to do any of it, please remember. Don't get me wrong my heart goes out to you and I pray your daughter is doing great. I've been there and I thank God for everything that was done for my son, but especially I thank God and his Drs for his life. 10 years cancer free! Please be grateful for all the wonderful work those volunteers do! :grouphug:

I have been very honored to help with the MAW children - these children deserve to have tears replaced with smiles if only for a little while - at one time we had "D.A.I.D" that was able to make extra special stuff happen for these children and I do know for a fact that they still surf the boards and still will help some of these children - how I know? :teeth: -just from the feed back from these boards.
I also have been honored to have Andy as my helpmate - he picks up the slack where I can't ---many of our MAW children have received postcards, shirts and pillowcases -
Thanks for all the help we do receive from behind the scenes - noone could accomplish anything without them.
Sincerely and always
Shirley

Tara - I have a busy week unfortunalty away from the shop, but if you call and I happen to not be there, please leave a call back number ok

Once again, Shirley and Andy are on board!!!

I hope all this special child has all wishes come true!! :grouphug:

I would also suggest inexpensive bubbles to blow at the sailaway party and glowsticks or anything that lights up for the pirate party.

Bubbles and glow sticks are an easy fun thing I can add to their backpacks! Thanks for the ideas. Any other items anyone can think of are welcomed.

Tara
