I am in need of some ideas. I am having 12 ladies over for our monthly get together. Last time they came I served spaghetti. I was wanting something different this time. Any ideas that good for a crowd, but not too expensive to prepare. I also have to prepare dessert. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Blessings,
Tammy

That may help us pick ideas for your menu.

I like to keep thing simple when entertaining. Maybe a lasagna with salad and garlic bread. This can be made up several hours ahead of time and kept in the fridge. That way all the mess is cleaned up and out of sight. Pop it into the oven, serve the salad, then serve the lasagna and bread.

Of course with the weather breaking you could do a really casual sloppy joe, macaroni salad, fresh fruit type of thing too.

How about beef stew in the crock pot or chili?

goofymom/pop-There really is no special occasion. We get together at someone else's house each month, eat dinner, play cards and try to win gifts. Just a fun night out with just ladies.

I have thought about the chili idea, but the weather here in NC is starting to open up (80 today), so I didn't know if that would be too winter like.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Sounds like a fun idea. With the weather getting warmer what about a big taco salad?

I make mine up ahead of time with everything but the chips. A couple pounds of hamburger, 2 heads of lettuce shredded, 4 or 5 tomatoes, 2-3 cans of kidney beans, shredded cheddar or colby cheese is what I'd use for a group that size.

Brown the ground beef and mix with the remaining ingredients. Toss in a large bottle of Western or Catalina dressing. Serve with a large basket of tortilla chips and salsa.

You could extend the offering with some bakery rolls too.

The taco salad sounds like a great possibility. It shouldn't be too much work and I would think that most people would like something like that. Thanks for the ideas.

What about this recipe I got it from soemwhere on the DIS and my first reaction was YUCK, but decided to try it without telling DH and kids what it was, well it was amazing and so easy, and can also be prepared in advance and warmed through

Citrus Chicken (serves 4)

4 Chicken Breasts
1 can Diet Sprite
sour cream

Brown Chicken ( I did this on my George Foreman), then place in a saucepan, pour over diet sprite and simmer for 20-30 mins, remove chicken, boil liquid rapidly to reduce b approx half and then stir in some sour cream (if you have not got any add a little lemon juice to ordinary cream) and serve pouring the sauce over the chicken, great with cous cous or rice or just plain boiled veggies.

I hope that you enjoy your evening whatever you make.

I would go for tacos.... leave the ingredients separate so each individual can make their own.... some will have tacos (buy soft and/or hard shells) and some will make a taco salad. My family LOVES tacos but will not touch those premade taco salads!!

For a big crowd we usually have bowls of:
Lettuce
Tomatoes
Onions
Jalapenos
Shredded Cheddar Cheese
Refried Beans
Sour Cream
Salsa
Taco meat
Garlic Butter

It's a lot of fun and you will see people trying different things as they can just add a little if they like.

Good luck!!:D
