Ideas for Sweet 16?

My DD will turn 16 in March - this weekend she informed me that she would like a Sweet 16 party. A little background - she has not wanted a b-day party since 5th grade. She basically a very shy, reserved young lady. Mostly hangs out with the "brainy" crowd at school & isn't particularly very social outside of a few close friends. Does anyone have any ideas for a party for her? What type of Sweet 16 parties do kids have?

my dd just had hers, we had a very simple one, a bonfire in the yard,ordered pizzas and had hot wings and pop, then they came down into our entertainment room and watched a movie. I do know alot of people rent halls and hire djs...but we werent crazy about being responsible for that many. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Hmm, a bonfire wouldn't be allowed here, but sounds like a fun idea. Any other ideas?

For my Sweet 16, my mom hired a band (kids from my school) to play in the living room, and we had a pool-party out back.

Sounds like your DD may not be that extroverted, but if you're worried about getting kids to come, a band usually does the trick!

Tip: Get a few of the other parents to help chaperone (you'll have a pretty big turnout with a band)

And lock ALL bedroom doors! LOL

We got my daughter her own cell phone and hid it in her cake (inside an industrial strength ziploc bag). When she got there, I dialed the number and cake rang, it was very cute. Besides that, it was just a normal surprise party.

There's a place in town where you can paint ceramic ware, called Crack Pots in town that a friend of mine rented for her daughter's 16 birthday. The boys and girls enjoyed it, and the mess was somewhere else.
