My son idecided he would like to have a big bash. We would love to have any ideas you have for the party. We thought music of course and maybe basket ball it will be in a gym. He is not really very athletic so basketball might be the only sport he would be ok with. We have asked him and he keeps saying I don't care. Any ideas would be welcome.

Hey Deb!!

When our DD turned 16 she just wanted some friends to go to a movie with her. She did not have her license at that time so we dropped them off. When we picked them up we asked her where she would like to go for dinner.
We took her and the friends to dinner that evening.

Not too much for a party, but it was what she wanted.

Thank God she is not like those kids on MTV with the obnoxious Sweet 16 parties! I can't imagine spending 10-20,000 on a 16th party!!

Have a great time!!!

Lisa

Hmm 16 year old boys... I am assuming there will be girls there also? The only 16 parties I have been to have been big girl all out prom type parties(way too over the top for my taste) But if your son is not into sports I would stay away from a gym. What about a dance club? What are his interests? Actually now I remember that my step brother had a party when he turned 16 but they all went to Paintball(that was his thing then) They had a great time but they were all into paintball. I would try to stick with what they like to do. Good luck and Happy Birthday to your son!

He loves music so we are providing music and food. It is a gym we are renting so there is basketball already there.

I think in a gym with music, basketball and plenty of food/sodas would be perfect. I wouldn't overdue it or theme it or anything. Kids could hang out, dance or play basketball. Really, I think thta's plenty.

I am going to get flamed for this but I spent my 16th @ Hooters !!!!!!

It was great. !!!!

My ds (age 15) just went to a "Sweet 16" party last night for a girl that goes to our church. The party was supposed to be formal, but of course only the girls dressed up. My ds and his friends wore what they normally wear to school! They said the girl should feel lucky they went at all!!!

My ds will turn 16 in June and I have been mulling this over for a while now. Since he is into skateboarding I figured I might take him and some of his friends to a big skatepark or something - and I would pick up the tab. I guess I need to ask him what he wants! He might want a party - but I really doubt it!

My DS had his 16th birthday party last August. He and 6 friends (all boys) went to a paintball course. They all had a great time. Afterwards, they came home and went swimming and had pizza. The paintball portion was kind of expensive at about $50 per child, but we think it was worth it. We took pictures, and he framed one and put it on his desk.

Around here the older boys usually bring several X-box game systems and network them together and play games in one corner of parties.

What about organizing a few simple contests? Even something as simple as guess how many pieces of candy are in the jar can be fun. Would your son be willing to have relay races?

I think if you can have several different options of things to do then the kids won't get bored (while they are standing around listening to the music). I keep hearing that this generation of teens do not like to dance. I grew up in the 80's, and we loved to dance. :teeth:

If he is into video games the teens around here have tournaments with prizes for the winners. Usually several tournaments are going at once. Since you will also have B-ball, you could have a three-point and free throw tourney as well. The kids at the party sign up for the contests that they want to enter.

A Texas Hold-Em tourney party would also go over well here. I would have them buy in with play money and then have prizes for the table winners with a larger prize for the big winner.

Bowling? Our teens love to bowl and listen to music while doing so. Would he like this?

My guys love video game parties. They would rather have a group come to the house and play video games than anything else (at least so far). They will bring all of our TV's into one room and play all night. My experience is that if given a choice most of the kids will play video games and not basketball.

Thanks All,
I liked the basket ball game mentioned. I just want them to enjoy themselves. At this age food and music is just about as good as it gets for our teen.
