Picked up some Round Steak at the grocery yesterday because it looked good, but was thinking about how to cook it today and am not sure what I want to do with it. Suggestions??

Use moist heat, like braising as it can be tough.

We have side of a beef in the deep freeze with lots of round steak. I am open to suggestions also. I have found that the crockpot is one of the best cooking methods for this cut.

Mom would place it on a cookie sheet and baste it with a mushroom gravy then bake/broil it until done. My dad loved the stuff in the middle of the bone, he would spread it on a roll.

I like to beat mine to death, dredge in flour (is that the correct term?), brown it, and then cook it on the stove top in broth, chinese veggies, and little Teriyaki (how do you spell that?) sauce and then serve it over rice.

I use round steak for country fried steak.

Dredge it in a seasoned flour mixture. Brown it on both sides then add some water. Cover and cook on low for about 3 hours. Take the meat out, make gravy and serve with mashed potatoes. It's great.

I don't follow recipes but I'm sure you can find one on the net that will give you exact directions.

This is an old recipe but it's fairly healthy.

Cut the round steak into smaller pieces and brown. Add one large can of tomatoes and a can of french style green beans (do not drain). Cook on low until the meat is tender.

This recipe is older than crock pots, but I think it would work well in a crockpot.

My favorite:
Cut round steak into smaller pieces. Dredge in flour, add s & p. Brown in oil on both sides. Add water and let simmer until the round steak is done. The oil, flour, and water make a nice gravy that is good with rice.

I use to cook round steak all the time. I cooked it so often that my family is now so tired of it they have asked not to have it for awhile!

I will usually dredge it in flour mixed with salt, pepper and a little garlic powder.

Then I will brown it in a little cooking oil, maybe a tablespoon because I usually just eyeball it.

I will then cover it with a couple of cans of tomatoes, chopped onion, green pepper and sometimes celery and carrots.

Place in the oven at about 300 and cook it for about 4 hours. It will be very tender. I will then serve the pan drippings with mashed potatoes.

Another way to cook it is after you brown it in the pan add a couple of cans of cream of mushroom soup and a couple of cans of water and then bake it for the same temp and time and serve over noodles.

If you want to get really fancy!!! Pound it and then lay it over about 5 pieces of string. Fill the middle with some feta cheese, chopped veggies like carrots, celery, onions and green pepper. Sprinkle with your salt, pepper and garlic powder. Roll it up starting with the long end and then tie it with the string you have laying under the meat so you have a log meat roll tied with string. Put in your pan and cover with a jar of spaghetti sauce and a can of tomatoes and then bake at 300 for a couple of hours. When its done you slice the meat and it makes cute little rolls and you can serve with a starch like potatoes or rice!

beef stroganoff .
Cut in little strips. dredge in flour, brown in a bit of oil. Then place in pan on low heat. Let cook in own juice (might have to add a bit of water- I usually do) and then add lots of onion. I use slices purple onion. Cook all day.
Then add sliced mushrooms. large container of sour cream and parmesan cheese just before serving. I serve over noodles but some use rice..... yummy.

I use round steak to make philly beefs or stir fry

my mom makes my favorite meal....

she cuts it up into pieces and cooks it in a skillet with garlic, onions and mushrooms.. then she adds 2 packets of brown gravy and water and serves it over rice. It is so yummy! I love it with a ton of mushrooms... but then I my mushrooms!

we get lots of round steak when we buy a side of beef. my favorite way to use it up is in fajitas. I know it's not the traditional cut of beef used, but I have to use that round steak somehow!

Marinate it in a packet of fajita seasoning mix and a can of coke/pepsi. this tenderizes the meat and gives it a nice flavor. grill, slice and serve.
