Ideas for Religion teacher gifts

My son is doing his Communion this year. I wanted to get his teachers (he has 2) something but have no idea. I am looking for something other than a gift card. Any ideas would be appreciated.

cash or Gift certificates is the most appreciated. I would also want to give something sentimental, but they probably already have years and years of gifts. DW says no coffee shops either. real money like michael's for school crafts.

I can't think of anything but a GC. A bookstore one would be my choice.

Do you have a Christian books store to go to get ideas?

I think a nice sun catcher or a cross, something like that for a window. It could be kept in the class room or on a window at home. They have some nice ones out there.

Or they have all types of religious medals for different things. Maybe one of them would be nice to give.

I am not Catholic but had the opportunity to attend a wonderful Catholic High School. I was always impressed with the reverence paid towards Mary and know how important she is to the Catholic religion. A few years ago, my dad gave me this framed print. It's called "Kissing the Face of God" and it is by Morgan Weistling.

It's hanging in the hallway by my daughter's room, and I just love it. I think it embodies so many tender emotions Mary must have felt. Some day I am going to give this as a gift to best friend, who is Catholic. Here's a sight that has Christmas cards, but maybe you could find a print and frame it yourself.

Not a Communion teacher, but I'm as a former Sunday School teacher, current religious ed director, and this year a Confirmation mentor. I would feel really wierd receiving cash and only slightly less awkward with a gift certificate. (As someone suggested, I did once get a gift certificate for AC Moore. I used it for more Sunday school stuff.)

My confirmand gave me a very nice book (reflections on the Lord's Prayer). Plenty of other options on that line of thought. We (ministry of education) give our SS teachers potted spring flowers that can be planted outside. (You can include a card talking about helping your child grow in Christ's love or something.)

When my father in law was in ministry work invariably someone would get him a small statue or picture of Jesus praying on a rock. It became a running joke. I would advise against something like that.

That is why I thought a medal would be good. I carry my Saint Christpher one in purse. And have one in each car. Because he is a protector to see you safely home. A lot of other ones out here with other meanings.

The flower idea is good too. Who doesn't like flowers....it is just close to Mother's day were everyone gets flowers.

Does your parish have a giftshop? Mine does (not that I attend church ever, but you know), and they have an array of Catholic books, jewelry, decor, statues, etc.

DD recently went through communicants class. Her deacon sponsor is a school teacher. We have her a gift card to a mid-priced local restaurant...nothing fancy, more fitting for when she just didn't feel lilke cooking that night. In this economy, I'm leaning toward very practical gifts.

Regarding the religious stuff...my dad is an ordained minister but for years headed a child welfare field office. His staff got him religious books for every occasion...of course, they were more the "religious best sellers" since the staff wouldn't have even known where to find serious religious works. He always appreciated the sentiment, but I'm sure he would have liked a gift card more.

I've taught religious ed for 3 yrs now (1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade).... I never expected any gifts and only got my first one this year (potted tulips ) from a student.....

My suggestion would be a craft store gc (AC Moore, Michael's, etc..) only because most religious ed. teachers are unpaid volunteers and I know that we would buy all the materials for crafts/crayons/etc. that our students would do throughout the year.

I'm sure whatever you do would be very generous and appreciated I was surprised and extremely delighted to get the tulips

A nice plant or, if you know the teacher's first name, perhaps it is a saint's name and you could get her a medal or prayer card of that saint.

Well, at the very least the nun won't be getting more flowers for Mother's Day

The one I picked up is more like an outdoor decoration, I got one for my house too and put it by the front door

Good point.... I had nuns for teachers but haven't seen any in years around here, mind you I think they would be harder to spot now a days. None at either of our schools here.
